Job Description

A Glimpse of the job: 

The IT Professional I (AV Support Specialist) meets the IT needs of a unit where multifaceted expertise is required. Performs in specialty areas of systems, services, applications, and/or database management. Performs unit-level support in multiple technical fields.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

Hardware/Workstation Support for Classrooms, Conference rooms and Computer Lab spaces

  • Installs, maintains, and upgrades hardware for audio-video, workstation, and printer spaces.

  • Identifies software issues for customers across all designated spaces.

  • Provides training, hiring, and supervision to departmental student workers on these procedures.

  • Investigates, troubleshoots, and resolves audio-video, workstation and printer issues.

  • Recommends upgrades for hardware as necessary.

  • Recommends specifications for peripheral or hardware purchases.

  • Monitors and maintains system security.

General Support

  • Provides centralized support for classrooms, conference rooms and computer labs, both on campus and regional locations supported by the department as designated.

  • Provides printer support for departmentally owned printers.

  • Researches, recommends, and resolves a wide range of technical and procedural problems for customers.

  • Provides estimates and progress reports.

  • Works with departmental staff to understand and outline goals and objectives for departmental technology needs.

  • Makes recommendations to create efficiency and enhance operations of the department.

  • Ensures work is accurate and in compliance with department or project quality standards. 

Incident Management

  • Consistently monitor assigned incidents and help requests through established response and resolution times of SLAs using the Division’s Incident Management Platform.

  • Provide timely updates and effective communication methods to keep campus members informed.

  • Monitor and address assigned work daily. 

Departmental Support

  • Assists management in planning, directing, and coordinating operational and/or procedural matters to meet goals and objectives of the department. 

  • Assists project teams with coordination, inventory, and contractor management.

Professional Development

  • Participates in training and professional development sessions as needed.

Salary: $47,500 annually

Other Factors: This role is onsite in College Station, TX

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Four months (1 semester) of student worker and/or customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AV support experience in higher‑education or health settings.

  • Experience with video/web conferencing, CODECs, and AV camera operation.

  • Experience in workstation and computer hardware support.

  • Experience with site surveys and performs CAT5/6 terminations.

  • Knowledge of AV deployment/configuration tools (Crestron, Biamp, AMX, Vaddio, etc.).

  • Able to manage documents in SharePoint and set up Zoom meetings.

  • Experience with supporting AV test procedures and using enterprise/commercial printers.

  • Experience with CAD wiring diagrams, reflected ceiling plans, and general construction drawings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills. Customer service experience.

  • Experience configuring, administering, and/or troubleshooting.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and/or move medium weight objects.

Other Requirements and Factors:·      

  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.

  • This position is security sensitive.

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.

  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.

  • May be required to provide on-call support on nights and weekends as needed.

  • This role may require working outside of standard office hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support the demands of technology services and ensure the seamless operation of essential systems.
