Description

The Sanctuary Golf Club, a prestigious member-owned private golf club located on Sanibel Island, FL is hiring for full time, year-round, experienced IPM Manager.

Our Green and Grounds team is responsible for assisting in the appearance and safety of the world-renowned golf course, bordered by a wildlife refuge and surrounded by nature preserves, lakes and mangrove forests. We are looking for a motivated self-starter who will provide the highest level of service and golf course conditioning to our Membership!

The IPM Manager is responsible for the processes of applying turf grass chemicals and fertilizers to golf course properly and at the appropriate times. An understanding of all needed products, applications methods, application timing and how applications affect or are affected by turf management practices and weather is required.

COMPENSATION: 62k salary, non exempt (overtime eligible)

SCHEDULE: Full time, operational hours begin at 6:00 a.m. and include shortened, rotating (every other) weekends. 

The department operates 24 hours a day and required work hours may fluctuate based on weather, special events, and agronomic needs; this position requires the availability for on-call duty and the ability to respond to after-hours communications or emergencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Mixing and loading of chemicals as prescribed (label directed) rates.
• Application of chemicals and fertilizers in safe, efficient manner in accordance to local, state and federal laws; Golf Course Best Management Practices for the state of Florida should be followed for all product applications.
• Maintain approved product inventory, to include purchasing, of necessary turf care products.
• Maintain all required record-keeping of turf care products applied to the golf course and clubhouse properties.
• Maintain cleanliness of facilities and equipment, including IPM facility and mix/load facilities.
• Identification and proper treatment of turf pests including weeds, insects, diseases.
• Supervise and direct staff as needed when assisting in IPM projects, procedures or general maintenance.
• Follow directives from Director of Green and Grounds and/or Golf Course Superintendent on all IPM related procedures.
• Manage and execute the proper operation and calibration of product sprayers, spreaders and affiliated equipment.
• Perform golf course maintenance and/or landscaping tasks as assigned by the Asst. Superintendent and/or Golf Course Superintendent.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field preferred. 
• Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible experience in golf course turf management, with a strong emphasis on integrated pest management. 
• Experience developing and implementing disease, insect, and weed control programs for warm-season turfgrass. 
• Experience with pesticide applications, calibration, chemical inventory management, and regulatory compliance. 
• Experience operating spray equipment and maintaining application records. 
• Must have Florida FDACS Commercial Ornamental & Turf License, or must obtain license within 90 days of hire.
• Employee must be familiar with and educated about South Florida flora and fauna.
• Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in landscape and golf maintenance practices.
• Must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing English.
• Calculate pesticide application rates, tank mixes, and dilution ratios. 
• Convert measurements between ounces, gallons, pounds, acres, square feet, and metric units. 
• Determine application rates based on label instructions. 
• Calculate fertilizer and chemical quantities needed for specific treatment areas. 
• Interpret calibration data and equipment output. 
• Perform basic algebra and percentage calculations. 
• Prepare inventory usage reports and assist with budget tracking.
• Ability to operate golf course equipment such as hand mowers, triplex and light weight fairway mowing is preferred.
• Acts as a positive, professional and reliable team member who takes pride in their work and representing The Sanctuary.
• Responds to supervisory guidance with professionalism and adaptability, incorporating feedback into daily work.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining and promoting a safe work environment.

• Valid Driver’s License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
• Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
• Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
• Frequent repetitive motions.
• Continuous standing and walking.
• Must use personal protective equipment (PPE), such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots and hat, when required.

SUPERVISES:  May supervise Green and Grounds staff as assigned by the Director of Green & Grounds or Golf Course Superintendent, including during their absence
