Summary:

The Manager of Environmental Services & Security will manage the daily operations of the housekeeping, laundry and security services and complete administrative tasks that include staffing allocations, overseeing the development of work assignments, reviewing biweekly payroll, conducting performance evaluations of staff and any other administrative projects as assigned by the Department Head. Implements departmental policies and procedures with effective resource utilization to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and established EverTrue standards. Interviews and selects candidates for positions in the Environmental Services and Security departments. Develops, implements, and conducts basic training and ensures completion for staff of continuing in-service education programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Acts as liaison to departments and residents in the community to ensure expedient response to concerns.

2. Oversees training, educates, and develops staff to equip them with the basic skills for good customer service and to perform job duties/responsibilities in line with best practices of infection control.

3. Makes rounds throughout the community and other campus buildings to inspect and check the work of employees to ensure proper cleaning/disinfecting techniques and adherence to cleaning schedules and Department of Health standards.

4. Manages a program which encourages environmentally sound and cost-effective methods for infection control, disposal of garbage and waste prevention.

5. Direct laundry personnel to ensure a consistent supply of clean neat and quality linens.

6. Ensures all housekeeping and laundry equipment are in best operating conditions.

7. Develops and ensures adherence to Environmental Services departmental budget. Provide explanations for budget variances, including overtime.

8. Maintain knowledge of current Environmental Service processes and procedures.

9. Monitors daily operations to ensure compliance with departmental quality standards.

10. Oversees the activities of personnel by interviewing and making decision for hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and terminating employees.

11. Communicates expectations to supervisor and staff. Monitors and reviews staff performance on a regular basis.

12. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.

13. Maintains oversight of chemicals, disposables and other necessary inventory levels related to housekeeping, laundry and linen requirements.  

14. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner to assure personal safety and that of subordinates and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to the Safety/Risk Manager.

15. Provides safety training for all newly hired staff during New Employee Orientation, as well as orientation and on-going training of security and dispatch staff regarding job duties and emergency response protocols; and coordinates annual fire safety in-service for all community staff and residents, in addition to Safety/OSHA training for all new community staff.

16. Ensures a legally-compliant and safe environment by coordinating the Emergency Response & Preparedness system, coordinating fire drills in licensed areas and working with local fire department in non-licensed areas, overseeing the preparation and continual review of site disaster manuals and safety processes and procedures, including, safety and communication equipment; Monitors and responds to physical alarms and contacts local authorities as needed; Documents and maintains facilities and life safety inspection records and drills.

17. Provides support as a Chair or Co-Chair for the community’s Safety Committee

18. May operate telephone/paging system receiving and transferring all incoming, internal, and external phone calls and making pages.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Associates degree in business or environmental management, or 3 years related field experience
• Minimum of three (3) years of progressively more responsible experience in institutional environmental services with a minimum of two year’s supervisory experience. Interpersonal skills necessary to conduct effective environmental services quality measures and to communicate effectively with residents, visitors, staff, and other customers.
• Analytical skills necessary to administer department and senior health system policies, budget and resolve operational and interpersonal problems in the area of responsibility, as well as skills necessary to supervise in a service organization.
• Must have good computer skills

Working Environment:

A well-lighted and ventilated working area that has its own temperature control system

(air conditioning and heat).  On occasion, may be subject to emotionally upset residents, or family members. Is willing to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.  Is subject to exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.  Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B virus within guidelines of standard precautions.
