Assistant Chief Engineer-JLL

What this job involves:

As an Assistant Chief Engineer at JLL, you'll be a key partner to Engineering leadership in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of complex facility systems and infrastructure. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with day-to-day work coordination, maintenance oversight, and operational escalation responsibilities. At JLL, we are collectively shaping a brighter way—and in this position, you'll do that by supporting critical engineering operations across HVAC and mechanical systems, central utilities, electrical distribution, emergency power, building automation systems, plumbing, laboratory infrastructure, fire and life-safety interfaces, and general facility equipment. We embrace more innovative ways of working, and you'll have the opportunity to apply that mindset while monitoring equipment performance, troubleshooting complex issues, and coordinating planned shutdowns and maintenance activities. You'll also play an important leadership role by providing technical guidance to engineers and maintenance technicians, serving as an escalation resource when the Chief Engineer is unavailable, and fostering a culture where everyone is empowered to thrive. What your day-to-day will look like:

• Support daily coordination of engineering operations and maintenance activities, monitoring equipment issues, alarms, active deficiencies, and outstanding maintenance tasks

• Provide technical assistance during equipment failures and abnormal operating conditions, supporting central plant, building HVAC, electrical, and controls operations

• Assist with assignment and prioritization of daily engineering work, providing technical guidance to engineers and maintenance technicians across shifts

• Review preventive maintenance execution and work order quality, verifying that assigned work is completed appropriately and equipment is properly returned to service

• Support troubleshooting of recurring equipment issues, root-cause analysis, and corrective action development to improve system reliability

• Reinforce JLL and client safety requirements, supporting compliance with LOTO, electrical safety, confined-space, and hot-work programs

• Monitor work order completion and documentation quality in the CMMS, supporting equipment record accuracy and engineering reporting

Required qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities engineering experience

• Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, building automation systems, and mechanical systems

• Ability to provide technical guidance and support to engineering and maintenance staff

• Experience monitoring and troubleshooting facility equipment issues and coordinating maintenance activities

• Understanding of safety protocols including LOTO, electrical safety, and related compliance programs

• Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across teams and serve as an operational escalation resource

Preferred qualifications:

• Technical education or Associate's degree in engineering, facilities management, or related field

• Prior lead or supervisory experience in facilities engineering or maintenance operations

• Experience with central plant infrastructure and utility systems

• Background in laboratory, technology, industrial, or other technically complex facilities

• EPA 608 certification or applicable trade certifications

• Familiarity with CMMS platforms and engineering documentation including SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs

• Experience supporting compliance programs, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up
