Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Trauma Services

Job Description:

This position is accountable for the provision of patient care and other activities as permitted by licensure and defined within Credentialing and Privileging documentation (hospital), Credentialing and Scope of Practice (Medical Group), Consultation and Referral Plan (DOPL) or other similar documentation as appropriate. As part of that patient care, this position is accountable to: deliver optimal patient care through effective clinical practice; education of the patient, patient's family, clinical staff, and others; consultation with other healthcare providers; and maintain current knowledge regarding options for optimal patient care and outcomes.

Job Description

This Advanced Practice Provider will join Trauma Services at McKay-Dee Hospital, a level II trauma center in Ogden, Utah.

The APP's primary role will be responding to levels I-III trauma activations, participate in bedside procedures, patient resuscitation, research and performance improvement.  You will also be rounding with trauma patients in our intensive care and other inpatient units.  The APPs also rotate the daily management of the Trauma Clinic.

Trauma Services provides 24/7 coverage, 365 days per year. This means your schedule will vary depending on department needs. A mixture of rotating day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts are to be expected, 12 -13 hours in length; however, our APPs do not currently take call.  

To be successful in this position, we highly prefer a nurse practitioner or physician assistant with a background in critical or emergency medicine.

Minimum Qualifications
Current state license as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant.
Eligible for State Controlled Substance License II through V.
Eligible for Federal DEA Certificate II through V.
BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree or higher.

In-patient or Emergency Department experience.
Applicable certification from a recognized certifying organization such as American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Applicable experience as defined by position leadership.

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$57.33 - $88.47
