Description

This position is responsible for overseeing and maintaining an established stores/inventory section and safety program for the City of Florence, Gas Department. Job duties include; performing physical counts of inventory/assets, supervising stores section personnel (stock clerk, secretary, & custodial) responsible for maintenance of plant grounds and off-site gate stations and regulator pits. Oversees the departmental safety program, conducts monthly safety meetings, performs safety training, coordinates safety/training schools, and maintains documentation of specialized training for department personnel. This position reports directly to the Manager of Gas and Water/Wastewater.
  1. Oversees the operation of the Stores Section.
  2. Maintains an established inventory system of all stock and non-stock items, including vendor pricing and availability.  
  3. Submits material requisitions to the Manager for approval/disapproval.
  4. Provides information for Purchase Orders and bids to the City Purchasing Agent.
  5. Meets with vendors.
  6. Prepares monthly inventory reports and submits to the Manager and Accounting.
  7. Conducts year-end, and cycle counts.
  8. Supervises Stores Section and Custodial employees.
  9. Maintains daily time sheets, oversees cleaning/light maintenance of all department buildings, monitors/maintains cleaning supplies, inspects buildings for proper care, inspects janitorial equipment, and coordinates meetings with stores and custodial personnel.
  10. Conducts feasibility studies for special projects as assigned by the Manager to determine if project is in the department’s best interest, and if the rate of return supports the project.
  11. Oversees the Gas Department Safety Program, conducts monthly safety meetings, and performs safety training for the department.
  12. Stays informed of all Federal, State, and Local laws/regulations relative to the department.
  13. Oversees the ground’s maintenance including gate stations
  14. Coordinates Safety/Training Sessions regarding the natural gas industry to inform the public about safety and employee training requirements.
  15. Performs other duties within the scope of the job as assigned by the Manager.
  1. High school or GED required.  
  2. Two (2) years of technical school training and 5 years experience in inventory control, including supervision and purchasing; or 7 plus years of working experience in inventory control, including supervision and purchasing; or combination of any of the above that is equivalent to the educational and experience requirements.
  3. Two or more years of supervisory experience.
  4. Experience in conducting safety training session and meetings.
  5. Computer experience and the ability to navigate in multiple software programs.
  6. Must have and maintain Certified Forklift Operator Certification or obtain within 6 months of employment.
  7. Valid driver's license.
  1. Must have knowledge of perpetual inventory systems, processes, and procedures.
  2. Must be proficient in computers and knowledgeable of inventory control software programs, word processing, spreadsheets.
  3. Must have knowledge of the City of Florence and Gas Department purchasing procedures.
  4. Must be knowledgeable of the inventory counts, year-end, and cycle.
  5. Must have the ability to supervise personnel in the Stores Section and Custodial.
  6. Must be knowledgeable of safety training and able to conduct safety training sessions for employees.
  7. Must be able to conduct monthly safety meetings for the department.
  8. Must be knowledgeable of office practices and procedures; and, have good verbal/written communication skills, customer service skills.  
  9. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  10. Must be able to operate a forklift.
Supervision:
The employee works independently with little or no direct supervision. This position reports to the Manager of the Gas and Water/Wastewater Department.

Physical Demands (with or without accommodations):
  1. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  2. Must be able to operate a forklift.
  3. Must be able to work around dust, dampness, extreme/inclement weather (heat/cold).
  4. Must be able to work under pressure to meet required deadlines.

  1. Personal computer, utilizing various software programs.
  2. Copy Machine, fax machine, general office equipment.
  3. Forklift
