The Athletic Equipment Manager works closely with coaches, athletic department personnel, student-athletes, vendors, and other university departments to ensure that athletic equipment and operational needs are met efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with applicable university policies and NCAA rules and regulations.
Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations related to athletic equipment, uniforms, apparel, supplies, and associated sports facilities.
- Coordinate the preparation, setup, distribution, retrieval, and maintenance of equipment and uniforms for practices, competitions, travel, and game-day activities.
- Assess equipment, uniform, apparel, and supply needs and initiate purchase orders and procurement activities in accordance with university policies and procedures.
- Establish, maintain, and reconcile accurate inventories of athletic equipment, uniforms, apparel, and supplies.
- Maintain comprehensive inventory records, including equipment assignments, distribution, retrieval, replacement, repair, and disposal.
- Inspect athletic equipment and uniforms regularly to ensure they are clean, safe, functional, and in serviceable condition.
- Coordinate or perform routine equipment and uniform repairs and arrange for specialized repair or replacement when necessary.
- Oversee game-day equipment preparation, transportation, setup, breakdown, and return for home and away competitions, as applicable.
- Coordinate equipment needs associated with practices, competitions, special events, and other athletic activities.
- Lead, train, assign, and functionally supervise athletic equipment staff and student employees engaged in equipment operations and related activities.
- Establish and maintain effective procedures for equipment storage, organization, security, distribution, and accountability.
- Coordinate with coaches and athletic department personnel regarding equipment requirements, schedules, special requests, and operational needs.
- Maintain records and documentation related to purchasing, inventory, equipment assignments, repairs, and other program activities.
- Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and fulfill associated responsibilities in accordance with the Clery Act.
- Ensure compliance with applicable university policies, NCAA rules and regulations, and health and safety requirements.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Work requires moderate physical activity, including standing and/or walking for extended periods and handling objects weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
- May require occasional lifting, carrying, moving, loading, unloading, and organizing athletic equipment and supplies.
- Work may occur in indoor and outdoor athletic environments and may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
- Work may involve exposure to physical hazards and requires adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.
- Schedule may vary based on athletic practices, competitions, travel, special events, and operational requirements, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution plus one year of experience in athletic equipment management, inventory control, sports operations, facility operations, or a closely related field or, in lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Knowledge of athletic equipment, uniforms, apparel, supplies, and related maintenance and repair practices.
- Knowledge of purchasing, procurement, inventory control, and recordkeeping procedures.
- Knowledge of athletic, mechanical, and electronic equipment and the ability to identify maintenance, repair, and replacement needs.
- Knowledge of university accounting and administrative procedures related to procurement, travel, and employment.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced athletic environment.
- Ability to maintain accurate inventory and financial records.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective equipment management systems and procedures.
- Ability to lead, train, assign work to, and functionally supervise staff and student employees.
- Ability to communicate effectively with coaches, student-athletes, staff, vendors, and other university personnel.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment regarding equipment, safety, purchasing, and operational matters.
- Ability to respond effectively to changing schedules, game-day demands, and time-sensitive operational requirements.
Conditions of Employment

- Compliance with applicable university policies and procedures is required.
- May be required to serve as a Campus Security Authority and fulfill all associated reporting and training requirements.
- Completion of required university, OSHA, safety, and other applicable training is required.
