NYSEG/AVANGRID is seeking engineering professionals for placement at the Associate Engineer, Sr. Engineer, or Lead Engineer level. Placement will be based on qualifications, experience, technical expertise, and leadership capabilities.
Position Summary
Support and lead transmission and distribution of capital projects through planning, design, construction support, commissioning, and project closeout. Responsibilities and level of independence increase with experience and demonstrated capability.
Responsible for high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage transmission and distribution line designs for all operating companies in Avangrid Networks with strong focus on high and medium voltage transmission projects in NYSEG and RGE service territories.
Position reports to the Unit Manager but will work day-to-day in a cross functional project team and support project needs as directed by the project manager(s) & construction manager(s).
Final level placement will be determined based on the candidate's education, experience, skills, and demonstrated competencies.
Key Responsibilities
Support or lead engineering capital project engineering performance including all phases such as: scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management and design, engineering design, construction, and closeout.
Develop and review engineering designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, material requisitions, and estimates.
Perform field reviews and provide technical support to construction, operations, and contractors.
Ensure compliance with company standards and applicable codes and regulations.
Support or perform engineering studies and special projects that improve system performance, reliability, operational efficiency, and business outcomes, commensurate with assigned level and experience.
Support or lead engineering studies, designs, and project activities based on assigned level.
Develop engineering packages independently or under the guidance of senior engineers.
Engineers at the Associate level will receive mentorship while developing proficiency in company standards, engineering practices, system design, and project delivery.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
Support system reliability, asset performance, and continuous improvement efforts.
Provide technical leadership, oversight, and mentoring commensurate with experience and job level.
Minimum Qualifications by Level
Level Education & Experience Typical Scope
Associate Engineer
BS Engineering (ABET) and 0-2 years experience OR Associate degree plus 4+ years related utility experience. Entry level contributor with guidance from experienced engineers.
Sr. Engineer
Bachelor degree in Engineering and typically 5+ years relevant experience. EIT preferred. Independently performs engineering assignments and supports project execution.
Lead Engineer
Bachelor degree in Engineering and typically 7+ years engineering experience. PE preferred. Leads complex projects, mentors engineers, and serves as technical lead.
Technical Skills
Engineering analysis and problem solving.
CAD proficiency; PLS-CADD preferred for experienced candidates.
Knowledge of transmission and distribution systems and construction practices.
Strong communication and technical writing skills.
Microsoft Office proficiency and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Leadership Expectations
Associate Engineers build technical proficiency; Sr. Engineers work independently and influence project outcomes; Lead Engineers provide technical leadership, mentor others, and drive strategic engineering decisions.
