Description

The City of Aiken is accepting applications for a part-time Tourism Coordinator to join our Parks, Recreation, & Tourism department.

  • Develops, plans, organizes, and promotes programs and special events for all ages; schedules entertainment and food vendors; order necessary supplies; obtains, schedules and trains volunteers; completes work requests; receipts and deposits money; coordinates and supervises various functions during event; oversees set up and break down of event
  • Promotes and distributes marketing material for programs, events, and facilities through public media, social media, mailing, conventions, and other venues to create the desired level of participation as well as solicits sponsors
  • Enforces the rules and regulations of facilities, programs, and special events; ensures the safety and maintenance of facilities; and recommends recognition and/or disciplinary action as appropriate
  • Assists with interviewing, training, and supervision of part-time staff, seasonal staff, and interns
  • Responds to telephone calls, emails, and/or meets with the public in person to respond to questions and resolve problems or complaints regarding a program or special event
  • Projects expenditure sheet data for each program/special event and prepares final expenditure sheets for each program/special event; evaluates results of completed programs and events to lean what worked and what can be improved
Other Responsibilities
  • Schedules and reserves facilities; completes agreements, work requests, checks requests and diagrams for set up. Gives facility tours
  • Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other divisions, external agencies and groups, and general public contacted in the course of work; provides assistance when requested; performs public relations work within the community and state
  • Assists supervisor with budget preparation
  • Prepares reports, papers, and other documents appropriate to the division; maintains and updates records and manuals
  • Pursues individual development to continuously improve professional skills, community programs and maintain knowledge of current practices in the field through training such as workshops, conventions, webinars and other appropriate venues
  • Bachelor's level degree (preferred)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must obtain First Aid, CPR, AED & DDC-8 Certifications within six months of employment
  • Analytical, interpersonal, and language skills necessary to perform functions of the job
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook, graphics and Internet
