The Opportunity
Aviva Canada has an excellent opportunity within our Aviva Business unit. Our Atlantic Branch is seeking a Commercial Lines Automobile Underwriter.
This role supports a portfolio of small business commercial auto accounts and is ideal for someone early in their insurance career who is eager to build technical underwriting expertise, develop strong broker relationships, and deliver customer service excellence within a collaborative, hybrid team environment
What you’ll do
Assess and evaluate risk for new and/or renewal commercial automobile business within assigned authority
Apply corporate underwriting standards, guidelines, and procedures to policy files
Analyze underwriting information to determine appropriate exposure, pricing, and terms
Utilize loss control and risk management practices in underwriting decisions
Respond promptly and professionally to broker inquiries and requests for policy changes
Support renewal activities to help retain profitable business
Assist with new business quoting and workflow prioritization
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with broker partners
Maintain awareness of market trends, pricing levels, and policy form updates
Deliver above average customer service while meeting service standards and deadlines
What you’ll bring
1–3 years of experience in the insurance industry; exposure to commercial auto underwriting is an asset.
Post-secondary education or equivalent experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Solid organizational and administrative capabilities
High attention to detail with strong prioritization skills
Strong computer proficiency: experience with underwriting systems is an asset
Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and eager to learn
Ability to work independently while contributing to a team oriented environment
Ability to meet deadlines and perform effectively in a fast paced setting
