We're seeking a General Maintenance Mechanic to support the safe, reliable operation of manufacturing equipment within our GMP manufacturing environment. In this hands-on role, you'll perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot equipment issues, and complete repairs to help maintain equipment reliability and minimize production downtime.

You'll work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and other cross-functional teams to support production equipment while maintaining GMP, safety, and documentation requirements. This role provides an opportunity to apply and expand your technical skills while directly contributing to safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing and production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and equipment-related issues to identify root causes and restore equipment operation.
  • Repair, adjust, replace, and install mechanical components and equipment as required.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and production maintenance requests in a timely manner to minimize manufacturing downtime.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and identify potential issues before they result in equipment failure.
  • Support equipment setup, adjustments, changeovers, and other production-related maintenance activities.
  • Assist with the installation, startup, and qualification of new or modified manufacturing equipment as required.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of motors, pumps, drives, sensors, valves, actuators, conveyors, and other production equipment.
  • Use appropriate hand tools, power tools, meters, and diagnostic equipment to safely complete assigned maintenance activities.
  • Complete work orders, preventive maintenance records, equipment logs, and other required documentation accurately and in accordance with GMP requirements.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), equipment procedures, safety requirements, and established maintenance practices.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, schematics, specifications, and maintenance procedures.
  • Identify recurring equipment problems and communicate findings to Manufacturing, Engineering, and Maintenance leadership.
  • Support continuous improvement activities focused on equipment reliability, performance, safety, and reduction of production downtime.
  • Maintain tools, parts, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Follow applicable cleanroom, gowning, contamination-control, and GMP requirements when performing work in controlled manufacturing areas.
  • Participate in required technical, safety, and GMP training.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in manufacturing maintenance, industrial maintenance, mechanical maintenance, production equipment maintenance, skilled trades, or a related technical environment required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain manufacturing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems and components such as motors, pumps, bearings, gearboxes, belts, chains, valves, pneumatic systems, and related equipment.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, controls, sensors, and troubleshooting practices applicable to manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, meters, and other maintenance and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and follow GMP requirements, SOPs, equipment procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to accurately complete work orders, maintenance records, equipment logs, and other required documentation.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, drawings, schematics, and equipment instructions.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use computerized maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and other team members.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safety, quality, and equipment reliability.
  • Ability to work in cleanroom and GMP-controlled manufacturing environments while following applicable gowning and operating procedures.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and safely lift and move materials, tools, or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, overtime, or holidays when required.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation as required.
  • Technical training, trade certifications, apprenticeships, or additional relevant hands-on maintenance experience are a plus.

What You'll Bring

You're a hands-on maintenance professional who enjoys troubleshooting equipment and solving mechanical problems. You understand the importance of keeping manufacturing equipment operating safely, reliably, and efficiently.

You work well with production teams, respond effectively to equipment issues, and take pride in completing repairs correctly and documenting your work accurately. You bring a strong commitment to safety, quality, GMP compliance, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement.

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, your work will directly support the equipment and manufacturing operations that enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.
