About the role

We are looking for a Procurement Specialist, CAPEX to join the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) Procurement team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in managing procurement activities for large capital projects while partnering with stakeholders across the business to deliver value, drive efficiency, and support strategic sourcing initiatives.

Reporting to the Procurement CAPEX Lead, you will lead end-to-end sourcing and contracting activities for capital projects, engage with major suppliers, and contribute to the continuous improvement of procurement practices and supplier relationships.

What you'll be doing

  • Prepare and manage competitive sourcing events, including bid package development, bid evaluations, commercial analysis, and award recommendations.

  • Lead supplier negotiations related to pricing, commercial terms, scope clarifications, contract conditions, and value improvement opportunities.

  • Identify and deliver opportunities for cost savings, spend optimization, demand management, strategic sourcing, and continuous improvement.

  • Negotiate, develop, and implement supplier contracts and master service agreements.

  • Independently lead complex and high-value sourcing and negotiation activities.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align procurement activities with business needs and project objectives.

  • Contribute to the enhancement of procurement processes, tools, templates, supplier engagement practices, and stakeholder experience.

What you'll bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in procurement, project management, technical, or related commercial environments.

  • Demonstrated experience managing sourcing and contracting activities for large or complex projects.

  • Strong negotiation, analytical, problem-solving, and commercial acumen.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Assets

  • Experience with SAP, Ariba, and Power BI.

  • Professional procurement designation (SCMP, CPSM, MCIPS, or equivalent).

  • Bilingualism (English and French).

We are a leading North American producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. With a team of over 2,700 employees, IOC is committed to providing value and continuity for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders through our unique mine to port approach, taking advantage of our full integration and wholly owned infrastructure to deliver our high-quality concentrate and pellets to our customers across the globe. 

IOC’s operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  We also operate a wholly-owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles.
