ICON is seeking a Lead, Clinical Trial Liaison (Lead CTL) to provide scientific and operational support to investigator sites while leading and developing Clinical Trial Liaison teams. This role combines hands-on study support with people leadership, helping teams deliver high-quality clinical trials and effective site engagement. 

You will serve as the CTL team lead on studies employing multiple CTLs, ensure consistent and high-quality support to investigators and site staff, and coach CTL colleagues to strengthen capability, performance and career development. 

What you will be doing

• Lead CTL activities on studies employing multiple CTLs, coordinating workstreams and supporting delivery to expected quality and timelines. 

• Manage, mentor, train and coach CTL team members and other colleagues, supporting continued career development within the division and ICON. 

• Build a strong understanding of the scientific basis of assigned clinical trials and communicate complex scientific, protocol and study information clearly to project teams, investigators and site staff. 

• Create educational materials that effectively communicate the science behind the clinical trial and support consistent site understanding. 

• Build trusted relationships with investigators and site personnel to facilitate effective study conduct and site engagement. 

• Identify scientific and operational barriers affecting recruitment, retention and data quality, and work with study teams to address them. 

• Identify effective pre-screening strategies for each trial and recommend practical improvements based on site feedback and patient pathways. 

• Provide detailed, timely reports of interactions with investigators and site staff, including relevant insights for project teams. 

• Contribute to tools, materials and strategies that support site engagement and performance. 

• Participate in business development activities and represent the CTL function as assigned. 

What you will bring 

• Doctoral-degree level qualification such as a PhD, MD or PharmD in a relevant scientific, medical, pharmacy or healthcare discipline. 

• Substantial experience in clinical research, medical affairs or field-based roles involving direct interaction with investigators and clinical trial sites. 

• Strong understanding of clinical trial design, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and site operations. 

• Ability to interpret complex medical and scientific information and explain protocol concepts clearly to different audiences. 

• Proven relationship-building skills and credibility with clinicians, investigators and site teams. 

• Demonstrated leadership and people-management capability, including experience coaching, mentoring and developing others. 

• Excellent communication, presentation, influencing and problem-solving skills. 

• Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a matrixed, global environment.
