Description

Under the supervision of the Vice President for Instruction, the Dean for Instruction: Client, Business and Personal Services provides strategic leadership, oversight, and administration for instructional programs, faculty, staff, budgets, and student success initiatives within the division. The Dean is responsible for ensuring high-quality, responsive, and sustainable educational offerings that support workforce development, student achievement, and the College's mission of providing accessible, career-focused education. This position supervises faculty, staff, and program operations within the Client, Business and Personal Services division.

Duty: Oversee and manage the division’s programs, courses, services and activities 
Tasks include: 
  • Carry out established standards and processes for course, program, and faculty evaluation. 
  • Oversee the development and assessment of instructional goals and program outcomes.
  • Serve on appropriate college committees 
  • Work collaboratively and establish strong professional relationships with individuals and offices throughout the college. 
  • Coordinate with faculty to ensure college and program-specific requirements are met. These include, but are not limited to: Advisory committees, program licensures and/or accreditation, and faculty licensures. 
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and Finance to support and ensure program job-accounts are run in such a way that supports student growth, enhances the program, are sustainable, and follow fiscal guidelines as set forth in the State Administrative & Accounting Manual (SAAM). 
  • Coordinate the development, review, and implementation of accreditation and strategic planning processes. 
  • Participate in recruiting, hiring, supporting, and supervising faculty and staff, including identification of need and related qualifications; engage in the interview process and make appropriate recommendations to the Vice President for Instruction regarding employment if individuals; and ensure all assessment procedures are followed. 
  • Assist with development of Bachelor of Applied Science Degrees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Duty: Provide leadership for faculty and staff 
Tasks include: 
  • Promote and maintain a supportive team environment. 
  • Be proactive and visionary in the development of new programs, courses, and services. 
  • Administer and participate in the performance evaluations of faculty and conduct performance evaluations of staff in accordance with college standards and collective bargaining agreements. 
  • Support the generation and implementation of professional development opportunities for faculty and staff. 
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of faculty and staff in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure high quality and efficient delivery of instructional programs, courses and services.

Duty: Develop the course schedule for division courses and faculty assignments. 
Tasks include:
  • Assist in the development of the quarterly course schedule, the annual catalog, and faculty/staff assignments for all areas of responsibility. 
  • Develop annual course schedule based upon analysis of course enrollments and program need. 
  • Analyze course and program enrollment trends to project necessary course/program offerings. 
  • Work with faculty to identify optimal course times for students.

Duty: Participate in and develop recruitment and retention plans and activities to meet student needs. 
Tasks include:
  • Participate in activities related to student recruitment, retention, completion, student learning, and resolution of student issues. 
  • Establish appropriate goals for each department/staff member to support college recruitment and retention priorities.
  • Support college-wide efforts for increasing student enrollment, retention and completion.


Duty: Develop, manage, and oversee annual division budget. 
Tasks include:
  • Work with faculty and staff in the development and recommendation of annual budget levels for each program/department in the division. 
  • Monitor administrative budgets and expenditures. 
  • Manage course/programs in the division within program funding parameters.
  • Master’s or Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Teaching experience in higher education. 
  • Leadership experience in higher education. 
  • Evidence of ability to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate with others, both verbally and in writing.
  • Evidence of ability to plan and manage budgets. 
  • The ability to multi-task numerous projects with demonstrated time management, organizational skills and accuracy. 
  • The ability to contribute to the college’s commitment to diversity, fostering a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation.

Our History

Clover Park Technical College is located in Lakewood, Washington. Our college has a rich history of professional and technical education dating back to the 1940s, when Clover Park School District established a War Production program, training civilians as auto mechanics, aircraft-service mechanics, ship-fitters, welders and blueprint readers. Now, CPTC offers more than forty programs in Aerospace, Advanced Manufacturing, Health Sciences, Human Services, Business, Hospitality, Science Technology, Engineering, Transportation and Trades.
