About Our Client
Our client is an established and growing international freight forwarder with operations across North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The company provides customized Air Freight, Ocean Freight, Customs Brokerage, and multimodal transportation solutions, supported by an experienced global operations network.
As the company continues to invest in Canada, it is seeking an experienced freight-forwarding sales professional to become its first dedicated Canadian sales hire. This is an opportunity to build business across Canada without restrictive territories or having your successfully developed accounts converted into house accounts.
The successful candidate may be based anywhere in Canada. The position is primarily remote, with occasional travel to the Toronto office and client locations as required. Approved business travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate new business through strategic prospecting, networking, referrals, and industry relationships.
- Sell international Air Freight, Ocean Freight, Customs Brokerage, and multimodal logistics solutions.
- Manage the complete sales cycle, including prospecting, discovery, solution development, pricing coordination, proposals, negotiation, closing, and customer onboarding.
- Develop customized solutions based on each customer’s international transportation, trade-lane, and supply-chain requirements.
- Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities, with an initial focus on establishing meaningful sales activity and early revenue.
- Maintain accurate sales activity, customer information, and opportunity updates in HubSpot.
- Partner closely with operations, customer service, pricing, and leadership to ensure successful customer implementation and service delivery.
- Develop long-term customer relationships and identify opportunities to expand services, trade lanes, and shipment volumes.
- Monitor market conditions, customer needs, and industry developments affecting international freight movement.
Operating Environment
- Primarily remote, with the flexibility to work from anywhere in Canada.
- Occasional travel to the Toronto office and client locations.
- No geographic territory restrictions.
- High degree of autonomy over prospecting strategy and market development.
- Direct access to Canadian and international leadership.
- Strong operational support from an established global freight-forwarding network.
- Entrepreneurial environment suited to a self-directed salesperson who enjoys building business.
Success Metrics
Success in this role will be measured through:
- Consistent prospecting and qualified pipeline development.
- New customer acquisition and profitable revenue growth.
- Air and Ocean Freight volume and gross profit generated.
- Progression of opportunities through the full sales cycle.
- Accurate and timely CRM activity.
- Quality of customer relationships, onboarding, and retention.
- Effective collaboration with operational and leadership teams.
Qualifications
- At least four years of business development, account executive, or commercial sales experience within international freight forwarding.
- Demonstrated success winning new business as a hunter, supported by measurable results such as revenue, gross profit, shipment volume, or quota achievement.
- Experience selling both Air and Ocean Freight solutions.
- Understanding of international trade lanes, freight pricing, and the operational requirements involved in moving international cargo.
- Ability to independently manage the complete sales cycle, from initial prospecting through closing and onboarding.
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.
- Entrepreneurial, accountable, and comfortable operating with substantial autonomy.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with pricing, operations, customer service, and leadership.
- Experience using a CRM platform; HubSpot experience is an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel when required.
Experience with customs brokerage, multimodal transportation, or an established network of Canadian importers and exporters would be advantageous. Candidates from both smaller freight forwarders and larger global organizations are encouraged to apply, provided they have demonstrated hands-on new-business development experience.
Why Join?
- Become the first dedicated salesperson focused on growing the company’s Canadian business.
