Job Summary

Behavioral Health Services (BHS) Director is responsible for providing leadership, support, and direction to Clinical/Administrative Managers for multiple Behavioral Health Programs that cover hospital inpatient and outpatient services and serve adult and pediatric populations.

The Director is accountable to System AVP of Behavioral Health Services and System/Campus Leadership to ensure BHS programs meet the needs of the Health System and community consumers across the region. BHS Director is responsible for developing programs, solutions, systems, and processes that integrate a standard system approach in behavioral health care delivery across the organization, with the goal of facilitating behavioral health comprehensive screening/evaluations, effective treatment, and the BHS discharge process that includes safety planning at the hospital and outpatient levels of care. The Director ensures that Admin Staff and/or Leadership is accountable for all data related to each patient encounter in respective programs.

BHS Director supports the multi-disciplinary team of Master’s prepared Clinicians, Psychiatrists, Managers, and Admin staff. The Director collaborates and directs leadership communication with members of Campus Medical Teams, Campus Executive Teams, Risk Management, Quality, Family Members, and Case Management and System Leaders. The Director is responsible for overseeing the development of systems and processes for process improvement in managing the flow of psychiatric information and activities among hospitals, community providers for inpatient and outpatient service delivery.

Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Nursing or related field require OR in leu of a Masters Degree, and additional year of clinical experience required.

Licenses/Certifications: One of the following is required:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor (LCSW-S),

  • Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S)

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Nurse Practitioner (NP)

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Five (5) years’ experience in a healthcare setting

  • Five (5) years’ experience in Healthcare Management Leadership

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including clinical staff, executive leadership, and community partners.

  • Demonstrated skill in conflict resolution and fostering a collaborative, respectful team environment.

  • Background in business planning with a proven ability to make sound, data-driven decisions toward targeted outcomes.

  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and allocating resources effectively.

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Working knowledge of performance improvement techniques and concepts.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with health care professionals, and internal and external customers at all levels to achieve established goals and improve quality outcomes.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Works in collaboration with the System Leadership, Campus Executives, Directors of Case management, Quality, and Risk to plan and coordinate Behavioral Health Care solutions for the system.

  • Facilitates growth and development for all BHS Programs under the Director’s areas of accountabilities with enterprise wide philosophy and in response to the dynamic nature of the health care environment through benchmarking for best practices, networking, quality management, and other activities as needed.

  • Leads and participates in year-round Activities and Education aimed at Employee Engagement, Development, and Retention

  • Directs and supports the BHS Educator to respond to all System BHS Educational needs:

  • Progress and implement system wide education strategies for clinical and non-clinical staff across the enterprise;

  • Progress and implement system wide training and support for BHS Staff related to behavioral health competencies and patient education needs.

  • Directs and supports the BHS Financial Analyst to meet BHS financial reporting and timelines of the system.

  • Identifies and achieves optimal targeted clinical outcomes via evidenced based best practices.

  • Assures that revenue, expenses, contribution margin and FTE’s meet or exceed budget; prepares and submits budget and related reports; forecasts and accurately projects expenses; takes corrective action to address negative variances; identifies and proposes capital budget items appropriately.

  • Acts as liaison to facilitate communication and collaboration between all care partners

  • (physicians, hospital staff, care managers, nurses, community resources, etc.)

  • Leads as a high performing clinical and management professional that promotes innovation, leadership principles, and vision while performing activities related to Hospital and

  • ambulatory operations and performance improvement.

  • Uses data to drive decisions, plan, and implement performance improvement strategies.

  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as a resource to less experienced staff.
