Associate Medical Director (Part-Time)

The Associate Medical Director assumes overall responsibility and management for the medical component of Care Partners' patient care program when the Medical Director is unavailable. He/she is responsible for his/her assigned patients, in conjunction with the attending or primary physician, for the medical direction and quality of care provided to the patient and family by the hospice interdisciplinary team. He/she acts as a consultant to the interdisciplinary team, and a consultant to the patient's attending physician, as requested, with regard to pain and symptom management.


Your Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):

  • Assists in the development and oversight of the plan of care for assigned patients/families in coordination with the hospice interdisciplinary team.
  • Collaborates with assigned interdisciplinary team weekly in the development, review, and revision of the patient's plan of care, including exchange of information, review of problems, and assessing effectiveness of hospice interventions.
  • Provides medical consultation, information, discussion, and advice to attending physicians and hospice staff for pain and symptom management.
  • Performs home and facility visits for patients who require determination of hospice eligibility and/or when physician assessments and treatments are required, when CP Nurse Practitioner is unavailable. Reviews CP Nurse Practitioner documentation when visits made by CP Nurse Practitioner.
  • Makes face-to-face visits with all Medicare patients entering their 6-month, and each subsequent, recertification period to assess the patient's continued eligibility, and documents findings per state and federal regulations, when Nurse Practitioner is unavailable. Reviews CP Nurse Practitioner face-to-face documentation.
  • Assures availability of physician services for routine and emergency situations in coordination with the Medical Director. Coordinates efforts with attending physician to provide medical care if he/she is unable/unavailable. May delegate appropriate services to CP Nurse Practitioner.
  • Consults with the interdisciplinary team members (on an on-call basis) for medical issues relating to the plan of care or resolving conflicting patient care decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Are you a physician (MD or DO) with a current Oregon license for practicing in Oregon?
  • Board certification in a medical specialty which deals with care of the terminally ill, such as Internal Medicine, Oncology, or Family Practice, with at least a working knowledge of medical oncology and demonstrated expertise in the principles of palliative medicine and symptom management.
  • Possess insurance required by state law for Physician to practice (and prescribe) in Oregon or be eligible for such insurance requirements to be satisfied by group coverage with an employer.
  • Demonstrated understanding and acceptance of philosophy of hospice, hospice principles of care and the medical aspects of hospice care.
  • Demonstrated understanding of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to hospice programs.
  • Demonstrated excellence with communication skills and ability to be professional and courteous.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs. Ability to obtain proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to relate well to staff and other professionals.
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary group.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, valid auto insurance, acceptable driving record and have access to a reliable automobile to travel to and from patient homes.

**New employees are required to complete tuberculosis screening and provide proof of Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
