JOB TITLE SUMMARY
Job Title: Specialist, Payroll and Taxation
Division: Human Resources

Job Summary
The payroll and taxation specialist is responsible for processing assigned payrolls accurately and within deadline; tracking faculty, staff and student employees’ attendance entries in the university’s time and attendance system; and reconciling monthly, quarterly and annual tax reporting.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities and Execution
- Ensures that all computing of wages, withholdings and deductions for non-exempt employees is completed accurately and in a timely manner
- Monitors payroll adjustments for all promotions, transfers, terminations and newly hired employees
- Processes manual checks as needed for terminations and discrepancies
- Reconciles monthly, quarterly and annual tax reporting to ensure accuracy
- Processes yearly tax forms
- Assists faculty, staff and student employees with making tax status and direct deposit changes in the payroll system
- Answers questions and assists in resolving employees’ payroll-related issues
- Maintains metrics for overtime and timecard audits
- Ensures that all timecards are completed, approved and submitted for payroll processing
- Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal tax regulations
- Reviews and processes all payroll tax adjustments
- Maintains payroll-related files and records
- Conducts various payroll audits as needed
- Assists approvers with time corrections, time-off entry and any questions related to the timekeeping system
- Assists with the investigation of problems reported by taxing agencies

Communication, Teamwork and Collaboration
- Assists employees and managers with questions about payroll policies and pay discrepancies
- Provides time tracking training to all student employee supervisors
Job may require other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of five years’ payroll experience preferred
