SAP Insurance Project Manager (Employed or freelance)

📋 Tasks and responsibilities

Role overview

This role is responsible for managing a strategic SAP portal initiative with strong integration across SAP insurance domains, including policy, claims, finance, risk management and reporting. The position ensures successful delivery of SAP solutions in line with business objectives, regulatory constraints, budget and planning. You serve as the central coordination point between business stakeholders, implementation partners, enterprise architecture and technical delivery teams.

Key responsibilities

Project leadership

• Lead end-to-end SAP implementation and transformation initiatives.
• Define scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines and budget.
• Set up governance, reporting and decision-making structures.
• Manage project plans, interdependencies and multiple workstreams.
• Ensure compliance with change management procedures.

Business and stakeholder management

• Work closely with business owners across insurance-related departments.
• Facilitate workshops and support decision-making sessions.
• Manage stakeholder communication and expectations.
• Resolve issues and help drive decisions in a timely manner.

SAP delivery management

• Lead the SAP delivery stream.
• Oversee the implementation of SAP Portal and its integration with SAP FS-PM, FS-CM, FS-CD, SAP BW, Datasphere, SAC, MDG and Business Partner.
• Contribute with solid knowledge of SAP, SAP ABAP and SAP HANA in the project environment.

Risk and issue management

• Maintain RAID logs.
• Identify delivery risks and define mitigation actions.
• Escalate critical issues through the appropriate governance channels.
• Follow up on external partner performance and commitments.

Financial management

• Manage project budgets and forecasts.
• Validate project-related expenditures.
• Monitor financial performance against approved business cases.

Quality assurance

• Ensure alignment with agreed project methodologies.
• Define quality gates and acceptance criteria.
• Oversee the testing approach, including SIT, UAT, performance testing and cutover testing.

Change management and adoption

• Coordinate communication and training activities.
• Ensure business readiness ahead of go-live.
• Support change initiatives across the organization.
• Promote user adoption and realization of expected benefits.

📝 Your profile

Required qualifications and experience

Mandatory

• At least 4 years of experience in project management.
• At least 2 years of experience leading SAP projects.
• Proven experience working with external system integrators.
• Experience in SAP insurance transformation projects.
• Experience as a medior IT Project Manager.

Preferred

• Experience in export credit or reinsurance is an asset.
• Experience with SAP Portal solutions.
• Experience with SAP FS-PM, Msg.PM, SAP FS-CM, SAP FS-CD and SAP S/4HANA.

Technical skills

• Strong knowledge of SAP insurance modules.
• SAP ABAP expertise.
• SAP HANA expertise.
• Experience with SAP BTP.
• Experience with SAP Solution Manager or Cloud ALM.
• Good command of Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, Power BI and Project Online or Planner.
