Job Description

The Remote Security Sergeant provides leadership, oversight, and operational support for security services at remote client locations where health, safety, and security are the highest priorities. This position supervises daily security operations, ensures compliance with company and client policies, and maintains effective communication with clients, employees, and external agencies. All duties are performed in accordance with NMS' mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily security operations and personnel assigned to client facilities.
  • Assign personnel to posts and patrols while ensuring appropriate staffing levels.
  • Interpret and enforce security policies, procedures, and post orders.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of client operational needs while documenting business processes and managing staffing requirements.
  • Translate business needs into functional requirements and prepare supporting documentation.
  • Prepare employee work schedules and review leave requests for approval or denial.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients to address security concerns, improve service delivery, and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Receive, review, and resolve incident reports, irregularity reports, and other security-related documentation.
  • Administer required reports, records, and other business-related documentation.
  • Conduct and assist with security investigations as required.
  • Review reports involving property damage, incidents, unusual occurrences, and other security events to determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, emergency responders, and other agencies as necessary.
  • Maintain, update, and distribute post orders and operational procedures.
  • Serve in an on-call capacity during off-duty hours as required.
  • Assume Incident Command responsibilities when appropriate based on the nature of an incident.
  • Provide transportation services using passenger vehicles, buses, and off-road vehicles as operational needs require.
  • Provide emergency medical assistance, including CPR, AED use, and patient movement within the scope of training.
  • Support other operational functions and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Monitor compliance with safety and sanitation standards and notify management of deficiencies.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assigned personnel to ensure performance, accountability, and compliance with company standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of full-time professional experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a related field.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
  • Ability to obtain an Alaska Guard License prior to beginning work (applicant responsible for associated licensing fees).
  • Ability to obtain a State of Alaska Armed Guard License upon hire.
  • Demonstrated training and instructional skills, including the ability to develop position-specific training and deliver quarterly general security training.
  • Experience handling handguns and the ability to successfully meet State of Alaska firearms qualification requirements.
  • Working knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Eligibility to obtain required certifications, including but not limited to TWIC and ATF Explosives Possessor credentials.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other contract-specific software applications.
  • Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, which may include a hair follicle drug test, physical examination, fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants who do not reside near a testing facility are responsible for travel expenses to the nearest approved testing location.
  • Ability to live and work in a remote, dormitory-style camp environment while maintaining camp cleanliness standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Commitment to complying with all company and client safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

 

 

 

CANDIDATES RESIDING OUTSIDE ANCHORAGE AREA:

Candidates residing in the Lower 48: For the purposes of pre-employment testing, Anchorage will be considered the point of hire. Employee is responsible for any travel expenses and needed accommodations related to pre−employment tasks that need to be completed in Anchorage, AK. This includes, but is not limited to, any safety training requirements, required pre−employment testing and/or training such as physical, DOT physical/medical card, fit for duty, audiogram, and/or other testing required by contract/company (such as NSTC, APICC training, security licensing requirements, etc.

Candidates residing in Alaska: pre-employment testing will be scheduled near the candidate’s area of residence within the state. The only exception is when the candidate lives in a region without the necessary service providers to complete all requirements.

 

Flights to Remote Locations: All employees are responsible for all expenses related to reporting to point of hire (Anchorage, AK) for scheduled trips paid for by the company for remote locations.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors and Outdoors, frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

Noise level: Moderate to Loud.

Description of environment: This is a remote camp environment.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently to constantly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
