Job Description:
The New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer is responsible for leading the successful transition of new products from concept through full-scale production. This role serves as the primary liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Supply Chain to ensure products are designed for manufacturability, meet quality and performance requirements, and are launched efficiently into production.
The ideal candidate combines strong engineering expertise with hands-on manufacturing experience and a proven track record of supporting new product launches in a production environment. This position requires a balance of office-based engineering responsibilities, including documentation management, design reviews, project coordination, process development, and technical problem-solving, along with active involvement on the production floor. The NPI Engineer will support prototype builds, validate manufacturing processes, implement continuous improvements, and troubleshoot production issues to ensure successful product launches.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) projects through all phases, from design release to full-scale production.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure successful product launches and seamless production transitions.
- Review engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, and manufacturing documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing, assembly, and product performance issues during new product launches, driving root cause analysis and effective corrective actions.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, assembly procedures, and production documentation.
- Assist with fixture development, production tooling, and test equipment required for manufacturing and product validation.
- Coordinate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and maintain accurate documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with Quality and Production teams to identify product issues, determine root causes, and drive corrective and preventive actions to improve reliability and performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in New Product Introduction (NPI), manufacturing engineering, production engineering, or a related engineering role.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, assembly instructions, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical specifications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability and willingness to work hands-on with products, tooling, test equipment, and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with electrical systems, industrial controls, power distribution equipment, control panel fabrication, wiring practices, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting backup power systems, generator enclosures, switchgear, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and other industrial power generation or distribution equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies, with the ability to apply these principles in a production environment.
- Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar design and drafting tools.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and move throughout the office, manufacturing, warehouse, and production areas.
- Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to noise, machinery, and varying environmental conditions.
- Ability to support hands-on activities in production, testing, and product validation areas as required.
