Overview
The primary responsibility of the position is to provide jobsite safety supervision and inspection for specific projects as requested by customers. The goal of the Field Safety Representative is to increase the awareness, understanding and implementation of safety practices for our clients, their subcontractors and the public to promote a culture of safety.
*Working conditions are normal for a construction site environment and may include inclement weather and rough terrain. This position requires 100% travel, often in remote site locations.*
Responsibilities
- Enforce jobsite safety objectives, policies, procedures, organizational structure and performance standards within the boundaries of OSHA guidelines and customer requirements.
- Assure that the jobsite is properly equipped with updated safety documentation including, but not limited to: OSHA standards, safety manuals, evacuation details and maps, emergency contacts and numbers, SDS information, monthly inspection logs and accident forms.
- Customer safety liaison.
- Employee liaison – ensuring employees are working safely and within compliance expectations.
- Complete daily reports, permits and attendance rosters.
- Monitor jobsite activity on a constant basis.
- Promote a clean jobsite and safe working conditions.
- Tactfully address and resolve any safety issues and concerns.
- Complete Jobsite Orientation for new employees, visitors, subcontractors, etc.
- Morning Safety Meeting Facilitation – development / delivery of safety topic / Customer Safety Meetings.
- JSA Management.
- Ensure Observation program (Take 5) is entered into the database.
- Work permit review/completion; to include Hot Work, Ground Disturbance, Confined Space, Excavation (including inspections), Critical Lift, Silica Assessment, etc.
- Monthly safety inspection of tools, fire extinguishers, equipment, First Aid cabinets, AED’s, etc.
- Incident reporting / root cause analysis / completion of initial report of injury.
- Keep water coolers stocked.
- Ability to gain Operator Qualification evaluator training, to perform specific OQ’s onsite.
- EHS documentation retention / maintain as OSHA inspection ready.
- Project Site Specific Safety Plan Development/Maintenance.
- Gas detector bump testing and calibration.
- Stop and correct any unsafe conditions, activities or safety violations.
- Include subcontractors in all safety directives, providing instruction and orientation when needed.
- Monitor and maintain supplies of safety equipment, distribute and order as necessary.
- Perform or assist with routine safety inspections and complete documentation.
- Oversee incident investigation and reporting with jobsite Superintendent and proper personnel.
- Maintain communication with customer safety directors and inspection personnel to achieve established expectations and objectives.
- Coordinate and communicate with managers on field operations and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management or other related field with two years of experience or a minimum of five years’ experience in construction environmental and/or health & safety field.
- Knowledgeable of OSHA, ANSI, NIOSH and other regulatory guidelines and requirements, as well as the completion of the OSHA 500 Training Course.
- Ability have the ability to communicate effectively and be solutions focused.
- Highly effective interpersonal relationship skills.
- Public speaking and training experience is required.
- Experience in supervising projects and team activities.
- Knowledge of office processes and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bilingual speaking both English and Spanish is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of safety related products and materials.
