Our client is seeking an inspiring Marine Research Centre Director to spearhead scientific discovery, conservation initiatives, and community engagement at a state‑of‑the‑art marine research facility. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The role involves overseeing research and conservation programs focused on marine and terrestrial biodiversity, including manta and devil rays, sea turtles, coral reef ecosystems, island restoration, and bird research.
- The Director will lead scientific initiatives, cultivate and manage partnerships with external organizations and academic institutions, secure funding, and ensure that all activities are grounded in scientific best practices and guided by sustainability principles.
- An integral part of this role is creating and managing exceptional, educational guest experiences.
- The Director will work to seamlessly integrate the Research Center into the resort's guest experience, offering immersive and engaging opportunities for guests to learn about the region’s biodiversity and conservation efforts.
- By fostering a connection between research and resort visitors, the Director will help position the center as a key feature of the iResearchslands' experience, elevating guest engagement with environmental education and sustainability.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) with 6+ years’ experience in marine biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field (ideally, working in the Maldives).
- Experience in managing a research facility, ideally in a remote or island setting.
- Strong background in field research, data analysis, and scientific publication.
- Demonstrated academic leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to secure research funding and manage budgets.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with conservation education, outreach, and citizen science programmes.
- Familiarity with tropical marine and island ecosystems is highly desirable.
- Proven track record in fundraising (grant writing, philanthropic efforts, and government funding).
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and academic institutions.
