Description

  • Lead critical retail credit risk model development.
  • Build models that strengthen portfolio risk insights.
  • Shape regulated analytics with real business impact.

See Yourself in our Team

The Model Development Chapter Area sits within the Capital & Provisioning Modelling Crew and is responsible for developing credit risk models and advanced analytics across the Group.

The team develops estimates for Probability of Default, Loss Given Default and Exposure at Default across retail credit portfolios. These models support regulatory capital calculations, provisioning and stress testing across CommBank, including RBS, Bankwest and ASB.

This is a specialist, highly regulated modelling environment where strong quantitative capability, sound judgement and clear stakeholder engagement help deliver better risk and business insights.

Your Impact and Contribution

As a Manager, Credit Risk Modelling, you’ll lead the development, maintenance and enhancement of key retail credit risk models used across CommBank. This is a hands-on modelling role where you’ll apply advanced statistical techniques, work with R, Python and SQL, and contribute to model development initiatives that improve the quality, agility and efficiency of modelling outcomes.

You’ll partner with teams across the credit modelling lifecycle, including independent model validation, business unit risk teams and model users. While this role does not have direct reports, you’ll lead initiatives, guide project delivery and mentor analysts across the team.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead initiatives that contribute to the development, maintenance and enhancement of key credit risk models used across CommBank.
  • Build statistical models and perform advanced analysis across credit portfolios using R, Python and SQL.
  • Develop and enhance models that estimate Probability of Default, Loss Given Default and Exposure at Default.
  • Apply sound statistical techniques, model risk management principles and regulatory considerations to support robust model outcomes.
  • Engage with stakeholders across independent model validation, business unit risk teams, model users and other teams involved in the credit modelling lifecycle.
  • Contribute to projects that improve the agility, quality and efficiency of model development activities.
  • Use GenAI and modern tooling where appropriate to improve velocity, documentation and ways of working.
  • Document modelling outcomes, methodology choices and key assumptions in a clear, concise and user-friendly way so stakeholders can independently validate models and assess their impact.

Your Skills & Experience

You’ll be a strong quantitative modeller who enjoys solving complex problems, working with large datasets and applying sound judgement in a regulated environment. You’ll bring curiosity, rigour and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to a range of stakeholders.

In summary, you will demonstrate:

  • Strong experience in statistical modelling, credit risk modelling, advanced analytics or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Hands-on capability using R or Python, with experience using SQL to work with large datasets.
  • A solid understanding of statistical techniques, model development and model performance assessment.
  • Experience applying modelling approaches to solve business, risk or regulatory problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex analysis clearly.
  • The ability to manage priorities, lead pieces of work and deliver high-quality, well-documented outcomes.
  • A collaborative and curious working style, with the confidence to engage stakeholders across technical and business teams.
  • Exposure to Basel standards, APRA credit risk requirements or IFRS9 provisioning would be highly regarded.
