JOB SUMMARY:
The Electrical Technician applies knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles to build and install trough, conduit, and control panels that meet design specifications. He or she also trouble shoots control systems during fabrication, commissioning, and startup of equipment. Lastly, the electrical technician performs initial testing on all newly designed equipment before it is shipped to a customer’s location.
EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred: Associate’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Applied Electrical Technology, or Engineering Technology.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the electrical/electronic fields are required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.
Preferred: 4 years of prior experience manufacturing electrical panels and be familiar with reading, comprehending and building from design blueprints and schematics.
POSITION REQUIREMENT(S): Specialized Skills/License/Certification
Required: Must be able to use electrical test equipment and all wiring related tools. Keen sense of attention to detail, highly safety conscious, high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, oral and written communications skills. The position requires approximately 2-3% travel annually.
CORE COMPETENCIES (Essential Job Functions):
- Basic electrical knowledge of low and high voltage and the ability to troubleshoot, pull and label wire in panels.
- Ability to bend, run and attach rigid conduit.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Working knowledge of AC and DC drives, operators interface terminals, etc.
- Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team is essential.
- Completes special projects upon request, and other duties may be assigned.
- Troubleshoot faults and breakdowns using: blueprints, manuals, manufacturer specifications, machine diagnosis, control parameters.
- Assemble electrical and electronic systems according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles, using hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Provide technical assistance and resolution when electrical or engineering problems are encountered before, during, and after construction.
- Inspect and clean equipment.
- Exhibits detailed knowledge of all equipment, machines, and duties.
- Under limited supervision, relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine best approach to achieve desired outcomes.
- Work typically involves periodic review of output by supervisor of the process.
