Open Rank Professor of Neuroscience

The Department of Psychology at Goucher College invite applications for a tenure-track position in neuroscience at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin Fall 2027. We invite applicants who share Goucher’s commitment to fostering a vibrant undergraduate learning environment for all students. The position will support the new undergraduate Neuroscience major, which is housed jointly in the Departments of Psychology and Biological Sciences.

 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field by the time of appointment; area of specialty is open (e.g., computational, cognitive, behavioral, systems, sensory). The ideal candidate will show a commitment to undergraduate education and demonstrate evidence of scholarship potential at a small liberal arts college. This research program should be viable without a dedicated wet lab or vertebrate facility. The candidate will be expected to teach 20 credits (the equivalent of five classes) per year, including Research Methods in Neuroscience, an intermediate-level course and an upper-level seminar in their area of expertise, a course that serves the Goucher Commons Curriculum, and rigorous mentoring of undergraduates on a research team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the Neuroscience program by advising Neuroscience majors and helping to grow the program. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to teaching students from a wide range of backgrounds and a dedication to engaged pedagogies that support student success.

 

Qualifications: 

 

Required: Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related field at the time of appointment.  

 

Preferred: Ph.D. and Postdoctoral training. Teaching experience and/or professional development at the undergraduate level.  

 

Salary Ranges:

 

Assistant: $77,727-$86,364

Associate: $89,387-$99,319

In addition, three (3) confidential letters of recommendation will be requested from finalists.
