Role Summary

The MRO Material Specialist supports heavy maintenance material management for Alaska Airlines (AS) and Hawaiian Airlines (HA). As an individual contributor, this role provides technical expertise to Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) teams to support aircraft avionics, systems, and powerplant material requirements, assess emergent needs, monitor deferred items, identify corrective actions, and help ensure the timely and efficient execution of maintenance operations.

Key Duties

MRO Material Specialist

  • Take initiative to develop solutions by collaborating with various M&E departments for heavy maintenance, AOG or problem aircraft which may include on-site technical assistance as needed.
  • With limited direction from Manager, ensures success of daily operational tasks, planning material support for engineering modifications (EOs), service bulletins (SBs) and airworthiness directives (ADs).
  • Collaborate with maintenance planning and other departments to ensure material flow meets planned maintenance requirements and changes during maintenance execution.
  • Applies knowledge in monitoring maintenance logs, ETOPS, delay/cancellation reports, and TRAX recurrent items to identify technical problems and/or recurrent technical issues.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain strong relationships with vendors.
  • Utilize Trax and various industry and supplier systems to manage order processing, inventory planning, and data analysis.
  • Suggests new parts to be set up in active inventory, recommends inventory status be activated or inactivated as needed Identify and investigate vendor issues, negotiate resolutions and recommend alternatives that act in the best interest of the Company.
  • Makes recommendations to partnering M&E departments on process improvement opportunities.
  • Manages the execution of projects and process improvements within the Supply Chain Ops & Material Management department.

Senior MRO Material Specialist

  • Acts as a subject matter expert in technical assistance by collaborating with various M&E departments for heavy maintenance, AOG or problem aircraft which may include on-site technical assistance as needed.
  • Lead, mentor, train, and develop team members while overseeing daily operational execution and ensuring effective material support for engineering modifications, service bulletins, and airworthiness directives.
  • Partner with Maintenance Planning and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure material availability, inventory optimization, and alignment with scheduled and emergent maintenance requirements.
  • Analyze maintenance logs, ETOPS events, delay and cancellation reports, recurrent issues, and supply chain data to identify trends, resolve technical challenges, and drive operational improvements.
  • Develop and manage strategic vendor relationships, resolve supplier performance issues, negotiate complex agreements and cost reductions, and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Utilize TRAX and other industry systems to manage procurement, inventory planning, order processing, reporting, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Lead departmental projects and process improvement initiatives, represent leadership during manager absences, and provide recommendations to improve material management and supply chain operations.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

MRO Material Specialist

 

Required

  • 2 years of experience in material support department (e.g. stores, repairs, purchasing, material control or maintenance) in an airline or third-party maintenance vendor system.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) skills.
  • Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) 

Preferred

  • Experience in procurement and logistics with aircraft powerplant system, operation, and components knowledge.

Sr. MRO Material Specialist

 

Required

  • 4 years of experience in material support department (e.g. stores, repairs, purchasing, material control or maintenance) in an airline or third-party maintenance vendor system, including experience troubleshooting aircraft avionics, systems, and powerplant, or related area
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) skills.
  • Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Preferred

  • Experience in procurement and logistics with aircraft powerplant system, operation, and components knowledge.

Salary Range

$61,800-$118,300 / year

Bonus

Pay Details

Intermediate level - $61,800 -$92,700

Senior Level - $78,850 - $118,300

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
