Description
Coordinate and be responsible for assigned work, along with crew members at a particular work site or on a specific project or task in Public Works.
- Oversees and monitors activities of assigned crew members;
- Discusses job requirements with and receives advice and direction from supervisor;
- Ensures all crew members understand proper procedures;
- Trains and coaches maintenance workers while encouraging them to learn new skills;
- Completion of documentation, via Cartegraph, on a daily basis to ensure proper inventory control and asset management;
- Ensures accurate completion of work in accordance with standard specifications and operating procedures;
- Performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, equipment operation and manual work in the assigned field;
- Schedules and monitors work and work assignments of crew members at the job site to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks/projects;
- Safeguards and distributes all equipment and supplies needed for a project;
- Ability to perform all duties of maintenance staff at work/job site to ensure adherence with established completion and quality standards;
- Assist with TN811 calls and updates for job sites under their supervision;
- Ensures that jobsite meets all safety and regulatory requirements (traffic, trench, pedestrian, etc.);
- Assist Foreman in Developing time schedules for completion of projects;
- Assist Foreman with annual evaluation of employees;
- Interact with citizens on the job site in a professional manner;
- Ensure regulatory compliance through proper planning and documentation; such as ADA, pesticide, etc.
- Mentor new employees;
- Attend training as needed to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, as well as maintain required certifications;
- Assist in emergency operations related to the area; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Thorough knowledge of department regulations to ensure adherence to those standards;
- Thorough knowledge of State and Federal regulatory requirements in assigned field;
- Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, and techniques used in area assigned;
- Knowledge and ability of job to be performed including the standards of workmanship required in assigned work field;
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety practices to apply and enforce;
- Knowledge of the general principles, practices, methods and materials used in public works and utilities maintenance/repair work, projects, and functions;
- Skill in supervising and inspecting work of subordinates;
- Skill in operating light and heavy equipment;
- Skill in keeping records and making simple reports;
- Skill in communicating instructions clearly and understanding/carrying out oral and written instructions;
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with city staff, and the general public; and
- Skill in operating and maintaining assigned heavy power tools and equipment.
- High school graduate or equivalent;
- Experience equivalent to two years full time work in assigned area;
- Some supervisory experience preferred
One or more of the following, depending on area assigned (must possess and maintain throughout employment):
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at a level appropriate to the area assigned;
- Grade II Distribution or Collection Systems, or Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control – Level 1 within 24 months of hire;
- Valid and appropriate Commercial Pesticide Application Certification;
- ISA arborist certification preferred.
