Job Description Summary

#LI-Hybrid

Location: Barcelona, Spain

As Associate Director - Clinical Data Analytics and Technology, you will help build and lead a new Barcelona-based team shaping the next generation of clinical data capabilities at Novartis. This is a frontline leadership role for someone with deep clinical research and clinical data operations experience who can translate between business, science, data, and technology — connecting clinical needs with analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, risk-based quality management, and scalable data platforms. As part of the extended Clinical Data Analytics and Technology leadership group, you will guide a small, agile team, keep them closely connected to global colleagues, and turn strategic ideas into practical solutions that strengthen clinical trial delivery, data quality, operational efficiency, and decision-making for patients.

This position is offered on a Hybrid working basis, with an expectation of 12 days per month onsite at our Barcelona Gran Via offices.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the transition to next-generation Clinical Data Operations capabilities by embedding analytics, automation, and digital innovation into core processes

  • Drive adoption of Artificial Intelligence-first strategies and emerging technologies to accelerate transformation and operational excellence

  • Mentor and develop talent in clinical data analytics, Risk Based Quality Management (RbQM) and technology solutions

  • Execute the Clinical Data Operations Artificial Intelligence innovation strategy, translating strategic priorities into measurable business outcomes

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives across Global Clinical Operations and Clinical Data Operations to advance company priorities and portfolio objectives

  • Oversee end-to-end Clinical Data Analytics and Technology activities, including analytics, reporting, visualization, risk-based quality management (RbQM), and technology implementation

  • Develop innovative approaches for risk-based data review and monitoring, leveraging automation and Artificial Intelligence to improve quality, efficiency, and decision-making

  • Ensure delivery of compliant, scalable, and secure solutions aligned with Good Clinical Practice, Good Practice requirements, General Data Protection Regulation, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and data governance standards

Essential Requirements

  • Significant leadership experience within Clinical Data Operations, Clinical Data Management, Clinical Programming, or related clinical research environments, with a proven track record of building and developing high-performing teams

  • Deep understanding of clinical trial operations, clinical data review, Risk-Based Quality Management (RBQM), and the end-to-end clinical data lifecycle, from data acquisition through monitoring, validation, reporting, and analysis

  • Strong knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), automation technologies, cloud platforms, and business intelligence solutions, including Microsoft Power BI and Tableau, with experience applying these capabilities to clinical development or data-driven transformation initiatives

  • Experience working with modern clinical data technologies, including Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems, Clinical Data Repositories (CDR), Statistical Computing Environments (SCE), and clinical reporting solutions such as J-Review

  • Demonstrated ability to translate clinical and business needs into analytics and technology strategies, influencing stakeholders across Clinical Data Operations, Data Science, Digital, and business functions to deliver measurable outcomes

  • Familiarity with Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) standards, including Study Data Tabulation Model (SDTM), regulatory requirements, data governance principles, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Practice (GxP) compliance frameworks

  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is essential.
