Description
The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) hosts world-class education and research programmes in organic and inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering and process engineering and synthetic chemistry. We aim to nurture future-ready graduates with the ability to tackle new challenges in chemicals manufacturing, healthcare, energy, food, and other important sectors.
We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Executive to support CCEB’s technical and administrative activities, ensuring the smooth and safe functioning of the laboratory in enabling the Students, Researchers and Faculty to accomplish their academic and research objectives effectively, efficiently and safely. The Senior Executive, Technical will be responsible for preparing lab consumables, managing equipment, delivering training, and assisting with experimental procedures and equipment maintenance.
Responsibilities:
Support Bioengineering undergraduate and PG teaching experiments in Biomolecular and cellular engineering, such as PCR, Plasmid isolation, Image & microscopy technology, Bacterial & cell culture, Cell labelling and visualization etc., including preparing materials, performing lab trials, revising lab manuals, conducting and supervising lab classes.
Coordinate lab schedules, student groupings, attendance records, and make-up lab sessions to ensure smooth teaching operations.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory operations, teaching effectiveness, and student learning outcomes.
Participate in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of new teaching experiments and laboratory activities.
Provide technical and logistical support for student competitions, projects, and innovation activities involving laboratory equipment and facilities.
Ensure adequate lab consumables and manage purchasing of materials and inventory control.
Ensure good lab housekeeping and safe laboratory practices.
Liaise with suppliers on timely equipment setup, repair and maintenance.
Carry out strategic budget proposals, tracking expenses associated with laboratory equipment and consumables.
Conduct training for new users, guide inexperienced users in operation of lab equipment.
Support the manager to perform diagnostic tests and in-house repair process in the event of equipment failure, engage vendor for periodic calibration and preventive maintenance.
Maintain accurate records of lab chemicals, consumables, assets and equipment maintenance.
Support lab and management, with experience in writing standard operating procedures and risk assessments.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the reporting officer and school management.
Skills and qualifications:
A recognized degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biotechnology or a related field. Diploma holder with 3 years’ relevant experience will also be considered.
Experience handling, operating and maintaining scientific & laboratory equipment such as Micro plate reader, Gel imager, microscope, Autoclave, Rheometer, etc.
Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Good awareness of laboratory safety.
Excellent verbal & written communication.
Good learning ability and able to work independently with minimal guidance.
Be proactive and independent.
Effective time management.
Good team player with service orientation.
