Description
The Davis First Generation Student Peer Mentor is a student employee within the Student Life division who supports the success and engagement of Davis First Generation students at Laramie County Community College by building meaningful, supportive relationships through regular check-ins, mentorship, and guidance. The Peer Mentor serves as a welcoming and approachable resource. They help students navigate campus life and access appropriate services. They also encourage students to become actively involved in college programs and activities. Through this work, the Peer Mentor fosters a sense of belonging and community, enhancing student retention, connection, and overall success. The Peer Mentor also attends meetings, holds office hours, assists with program events, and responds to student needs in a timely and professional manner.
Compensation: $13.33/hr.
Priority Screening Date: Position is open until filled.
Starting Date: As soon as practical after the hiring process.

Position may include one or more of the following duties, or others as assigned:
- Hold monthly check-in meetings with assigned Davis First Generation Students and check in with them weekly (email, text, etc.)
- Build supportive, positive relationships with assigned students.
- Serve as a friendly, approachable point of contact.
- Help students feel connected and welcomed on campus.
- Refer students to appropriate offices or services when needed.
- Encourage participation in campus events, clubs, and activities.
- Help students find ways to get involved.
- Foster a sense of belonging and community.
- Respond to student questions in a timely and professional manner.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and or individual check-in meetings with the Student Engagement Coordinator.
- Hold weekly office hours.
- Assist with the Davis First Generation Events.
Other responsibilities may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities.
- There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
- An employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be instances of somewhat loud environments.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Current LCCC student and continued enrollment in a minimum of 6 credits a semester, (exceptions may be given for summer term with supervisor approval).
- Be in good standing with Laramie County Community College.
- Successfully completed the Davis First Generation Program.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that changes based on semester events.
- Ability to work with diverse topics and cultures with an open mind.
- Are work study qualified.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of experience in an office setting working with Microsoft Office Software. (Excel, Word, Etc.)
- Experience facilitating one-on-one and small group conversations.
- Ability to connect with diverse student populations
- Demonstrated leadership experience (formal or informal)
- Strong problem-solving and referral skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Time management and organizational skills.
- Reliability and ability to meet deadlines.
