Remote Armed Security Officer (Rotational)- Kuparuk - CP

Job Description

The Remote Armed Security Officer provides professional armed security services for commercial and industrial clients in remote environments where health, safety, and security are the highest priorities. Assigned to the Kuparuk oil field, this position is responsible for protecting personnel, facilities, equipment, and critical infrastructure through proactive security operations, access control, emergency response, and customer service while ensuring compliance with company and client policies. All duties are performed in accordance with NMS' mission, vision, and values.

 

This position follows a two (2) weeks on, two (2) weeks off rotational schedule and is based at the Kuparuk oil field.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine armed security patrols of assigned buildings, facilities, and grounds by foot, vehicle, or electronic monitoring systems to ensure the safety and security of personnel, property, and critical infrastructure.
• Control access to client facilities by verifying identification and authorizing entry for employees, visitors, contractors, and authorized personnel.
• Inspect doors, windows, gates, fences, and other access points to ensure they are properly secured and report any deficiencies.
• Observe, document, and report property damage, unusual occurrences, suspicious activity, safety hazards, and security incidents.
• Enforce company and client policies and procedures by providing direction to individuals, addressing rule violations, and removing unauthorized persons from the property when appropriate.
• Notify personnel of visitors and coordinate visitor access in accordance with established procedures.
• Respond appropriately to alarms, emergencies, medical incidents, fires, and other critical situations to protect life, property, and client assets.
• Operate and maintain camp billeting, visitor management, and electronic access control systems while ensuring accurate documentation of authorized personnel and visitors.
• Monitor facility systems, including fire protection, security, lighting, heating, ventilation, and related building systems, and report operational concerns as required.
• Safely carry and maintain assigned firearms and security equipment in accordance with company policy, state regulations, and contract requirements.
• Provide transportation services using vehicles ranging from standard passenger vehicles to buses and off-road vehicles, as required.
• Provide emergency medical response, including CPR, AED use, basic first aid, and patient movement, within the scope of training and certification.
• Promptly report unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, or sanitation concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
• Complete incident reports, daily activity logs, and other required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and operational objectives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of full-time professional experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.
• Relevant post-secondary education may be substituted for a portion of the required experience.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the previous three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
• Ability to obtain an Alaska Guard License prior to employment. The applicant is responsible for the applicable licensing fee.
• Must obtain and maintain a State of Alaska Armed Guard License upon hire.
• Must demonstrate safe handgun handling skills and successfully pass a law enforcement-style firearms qualification in accordance with contract requirements.
• Ability to qualify for required credentials and certifications, including but not limited to TWIC and ATF Explosives Possessor authorization, as required by the contract.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and contract-specific software.
• Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, which may include a criminal background check, drug screening, physical examination, fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants who do not reside near an approved testing facility are responsible for travel expenses to the nearest testing location.
• Ability to reside in dormitory-style accommodations and comply with remote camp standards, including housekeeping and cleanliness requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining positive relationships with coworkers, clients, and customers.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions with minimal supervision, particularly during emergency situations.
• Ability to work a two (2) weeks on, two (2) weeks off rotational schedule.
• Ability to stand and/or walk for up to twelve (12) hours per shift and perform duties in remote Arctic weather conditions.
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English as required by the contract.
• Must comply with all company and client safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

CANDIDATES RESIDING OUTSIDE ANCHORAGE AREA:

Candidates residing in the Lower 48 for any contract and/or hired for the BP contract: For the purposes of pre-employment testing, Anchorage will be considered the point of hire (with the exception of drug testing, which will be conducted near the candidate’s place of residence). Employee is responsible for any travel expenses and needed accommodations related to pre−employment tasks that need to be completed in Anchorage, AK. This includes, but is not limited to, any safety training requirements, required pre−employment testing and/or training such as physical, DOT physical/medical card, fit for duty, audiogram, and/or other testing required by contract/company (such as NSTC, APICC training, security licensing requirements, etc.

Candidates residing in Alaska for Alyeska and Hillcorp contracts: pre-employment testing will be scheduled near the candidate’s area of residence within the state. The only exception is when the candidate lives in a region without the necessary service providers to complete all requirements.

 

Flights to Remote Locations: All employees are responsible for all expenses related to reporting to point of hire (Anchorage, AK) for scheduled trips paid for by the company for remote locations.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors and Outdoors, frequently exposed to arctic outdoor weather conditions.

Noise level: Moderate to Loud.

Description of environment: This is a remote camp environment.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently to constantly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Fit For Duty Test:

 

• Lift: Lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle x2
• Lift: Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist x 2
• Carry: Carry 35 lbs. with two hands for a minimum distance of 150 feet, self-paced
  • Allow a 60 second rest break after 75 feet.
• Push: push horizontally with a peak force of 60 f-lbs. with two hands
• Pull: pull horizontally with a peak force of 60 f-lbs. with two hands.
• Stoop & Twist: Perform alternate cross over toe touches x 10 each side, self-paced but continuous.
• Kneel: Kneel on one knee and stand.  Return to kneel on opposite knee.  Repeat alternate kneeling sequence x 3 for each knee, self-pace but continuous.
• Stand from Supine Position Test: From a supine, recumbent position, while wearing arctic gear, test recipient must be able to stand without assistance x 3, self-paced (this task must be accomplished safely without significant loss of balance or falling.)  Allow one re-test when there is a loss of balance considered unsafe or a fall.
• Walk: Walk on a treadmill at 3 MPH for 10 minutes with good balance,
• Stairs: Climb up and down 10 steps x 2 for a total of 20 steps, self-paced.
• Shoveling: Perform a shovel test for five (5) minutes self-paced but continuous (i.e., no breaks) using a standard snow shovel with a 3 lb. weight attached to the shovel blade. (e.g. sand bag weight securely taped to the shovel blade.)
• Stairs & Carry: Climb up and down 10 steps x 2 for a total of 20 steps while carrying 30 lbs. in one hand and using the other hand to grasp a railing for safety, self-paced.
  • Allow a 60 second rest period after climbing up and down 10 steps while carrying.
