Description
The Manager of Permitting is responsible for ownership over the permitting activities as it relates to project management. Permits may include the Department of Transportation (DOT), railroads, waterways, drainage districts, city/county permits, and other agency requirements as necessary for the timely completion of the construction schedule. The Manager of Permitting is one of the main contacts with the construction and pole team owners.
What you'll do:
Manages relationships with local & national power companies to drive permit approvals
Review and analyze make-ready costs and determine if moving the network underground will speed up construction activities
Anticipates and schedules permits to avoid project roadblocks
Researches and gathers data to support the market expansion team in scheduling requirements
Successfully negotiate project design and mitigation measures with local, state, and federal regulators to ensure project success while understanding project constraints.
Manage contractors, vendors, and consultants to maintain project timeline and budget.
Provides follow-up to pending issues to assure completion of tasks
Coordinates with permitting agencies to organize applications, adjust as desired, and resolve any issues preventing or delaying the permitting process
Supports leadership on Network Expansion projects where assigned
Manages permitting coordinators across multiple markets
Serves as a liaison with internal and external teams to ensure pole applications are submitted in order and on time to meet the project schedule
Develops plans including timeline, tasks, and schedule for permits from inception through the issuance
Ensure permit submittal packages are in accordance with jurisdictional requirements
Identify jurisdiction-specific requirements
Monitors/tracks permit packages via online systems, email, or in person as necessary
Completes all necessary paperwork for reporting
Special projects and other duties as assigned.
What we're looking for:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in Business, Management, or related business-related function; or equivalent related experience.
Experience/Skills Needed:
5 years of permitting experience, analysis and tracking
5 years of leadership experience
Experience in permitting management and obtaining permits for utility construction in rights-of-way and public or private utility easements
Experience with permitting in multiple states preferred
experience working in cross-functional teams preferred
Strong organization and problem-solving skills
Strong social, verbal, and written communication skills required
Must be able to work independently, and with a team
Computer Skills
Google and/or Microsoft suite knowledge, Internet software, e-mail, order processing, and database software.
