Job Description
We are seeking an Audio / Acoustical Engineer to join our Fort Lauderdale, Florida team in developing industry-leading two-way radio platforms focused on wireless speech communications. This Engineer will help develop and build life-saving audio architectures and technologies for first responders, military personnel, and public safety officers operating in chaotic, high-noise environments. Where consumer-grade audio fails, our mission-critical P25 devices must deliver crystal-clear voice intelligibility - without exception.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Audio Technology Lifecycle Management: Maintain foundational audio technologies and processing algorithms to ensure reliable, high-quality acoustic performance across diverse hardware platforms
- Audio Algorithm Development: Assist in the development of new approaches and algorithms for audio signal processing and machine learning
- Audio Signal Path Architecture: Contribute to the design and implementation of new audio signal paths that dynamically balance noise suppression, microphone gain, wind porting, and speaker equalization in real time, with a focus on intelligibility
- Product Assessment: Benchmark performance using speech clarity and intelligibility metrics
- Testing & Performance Validation: Conduct lab and field testing to measure speech intelligibility, frequency response, and acoustic distortion across high-decibel background environments
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Human Factors and Business Teams to evaluate customer-perceived value of new audio technologies
Desired skills and abilities:
Programming & Software Engineering
- Foundational proficiency in MATLAB or Python programming
- Working knowledge of compiled systems programming languages (C or C++)
- Exposure to writing and optimizing digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms
- Hands-on experience integrating modern AI development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Devin)
Technical & Domain Expertise
- Fundamental Acoustic Knowledge: Practical understanding of basic physical sound behavior, speaker and microphone mechanics, and foundational psychoacoustic concepts
- Audio Workstation Proficiency: Hands-on experience using industry-standard digital audio workstations such as Adobe Audition, Audacity or other audio editing tools
- Machine Learning Applications: Theoretical grounding and practical familiarity with applying machine learning frameworks and data-driven models to audio processing tasks
Professional & Operational Skills:
- Technical Documentation: Ability to organize clear documentation, specifications, and reports using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) or Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Collaborative Problem-Solving: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges.
- Proactive Ownership: A self-starter attitude with the initiative to tackle ambiguous problems and drive solutions.
- Adaptive & Positive Mindset: Maintains an optimistic, solution-oriented attitude when navigating change, tight deadlines, or evolving project requirements.
- Adaptability & Growth Mindset: Optimistic, open-minded approach to feedback, project adjustments, and evolving technical requirements.
Target Base Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000 USD
