Description
EA Talent Solutions has been engaged by a long-established, family-owned real estate management company, operating for more than 85 years with properties across Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Scarsdale, and the Bronx, to recruit a VP of Finance for their Nassau County office.
This is a rare leadership opportunity for a seasoned finance executive with family office experience who wants full ownership of the accounting and finance function. The successful candidate will arrive with a clear point of view on how a high-volume, multi-entity portfolio should be run, and the authority and presence to implement it. This is a hands-on, in-person leadership role: you will work directly with ownership and the team every day, establish the standards, and hold the function accountable to them.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the accounting and finance function across a multi-entity real estate portfolio of 100+ entities.
- Rebuild and standardize accounting processes, controls, and the month-end close, setting a clear “this is how it’s done” operating framework.
- Serve as the primary financial advisor to ownership, with diplomacy and firmness, setting clear boundaries, priorities, and governance around financial decision-making.
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable the accounting team; assess current talent and build the structure needed going forward.
- Oversee consolidated and property-level financial reporting, cash management, intercompany activity, and cash flow forecasting.
- Direct budgeting, variance analysis, and ad hoc analysis for ownership.
- Manage relationships with auditors, lenders, tax advisors, banks, and other outside partners.
- Strengthen internal controls and ensure accuracy and integrity across tenant ledgers, security deposits, escrow, AR/AP, and the general ledger.
- Evaluate and improve accounting systems and reporting tools.
- Provide strategic financial guidance on acquisitions, financing, and portfolio decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
- 10–15+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership; family office and/or real estate experience required.
- Proven experience managing high-volume, multi-entity financial operations.
- Track record of stepping into an under-structured function, setting standards, and driving accountability.
- Assertive, confident leader who communicates directly and holds up under pressure, including with ownership and family principals.
- Strong technical command of GAAP, consolidations, intercompany accounting, and real estate accounting.
- Advanced Excel and strong financial modeling skills.
- Comfortable working onsite, full-time, with a strong in-person presence. Extended hours are expected, particularly around month-end close.
Compensation
- Base salary of $200,000-$250,000
- Discretionary annual bonus based on performance (not guaranteed).
