1.0 Summary:
Job Title: Special Product Engineer
Reports to: Engineering Projects Manager (CES)
Location: Office based Wellingborough, Northamptonshire
Hours of Work: 08:00 – 17:15 Hours Monday to Thursday (30 mins lunch)
08:00 – 13:00 Hours Friday (no lunch break) Total (40 hours)
Holidays: 24 days, plus statutory holidays, increasing with length of service to 26
Additional 1 day “Birthday Friday” holiday.
Pension: Group Personal Pension Plan with maximum 5% employer contribution.

3.0 Purpose of the Role:
To deliver effective and efficient design, engineering, testing requirements, and documentation for Special ENQuiries (SENQ), from initial enquiry through quotation, order placement, and final shipment. The role supports international flow measurement projects and requires close collaboration across multiple departments to ensure quotations and design solutions are successfully risk managed and customer orders fully meet specification and delivery expectations.
- 4.0 Day to Day Responsibilities:
Enquiries:
- Evaluate and process customer enquiries for non-pricelist system solutions for mechanical, electrical, documentation and testing requirements in a timely manner.
- Ensure all enquiries are technically clear, aligned with customer requirements, compliant with existing approvals, and in accordance with relevant local standards.
- Assess and manage proposal risks, clearly defining both customer and company responsibilities, and outlining any limitations.
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain accurate pricing and delivery commitments of components.
Post order:
- Establish all project requirements and review current quotation against customer order ensuring technical detail aligns.
- Co-ordinate documentation and technical specification of special requirements, liaising with specialist departments including weld engineers and R&D as required.
- Communicate special requirements to relevant departments in a timely manner.
- Produce engineering drawings and supporting documentation to assist project delivery.
- Liaise with suppliers and materials team to ensure materials meet specification and are quarantined as required for projects.
- Release projects to Project Engineers providing a complete project documentation pack with a clear and concise description of requirements.
- Identify project risks and plan appropriate contingencies.
Production Stage:
- Provide technical support to Project Engineers, Production and Quality department as required.
- Support sales organisations with technical clarifications of projects including change requests.
- Ensure full compliance with testing and inspection requirements defined in project scope.
Other Activities:
- Support the acquisition of statutory approvals and permissions required for project delivery.
- Maintain and update enquiry, quotation and order database.
- Contribute to departmental, customer and internal stakeholder’s meetings.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including departmental procedures and processes.
- Understand product portfolio and follow company processes for design changes and revision control and approval.
- Develop and understand global regulations and standards including PED, IECEx, ATEX, ASME, DIN, applicable to the product range.
- Be aware of export licencing and due diligence throughout all enquiries and project activities.
