Vice President, Controller

Job Description

You are the kind of Controller who does not just close the books — you rewrite what the accounting function is capable of. Fox Rent A Car is looking for a Controller who brings that same builder's instinct to a high-growth, $400 million enterprise where the scope is real, the visibility is high, and the opportunity to leave your mark on the finance organization is even bigger.

Your Primary Focus Is To:

Accounting Leadership & Financial Reporting

• Own all aspects of the accounting function: general ledger, financial close, financial statements, and technical accounting under both GAAP and IFRS.
• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process with accuracy and discipline.
• Partner closely with Corporate FP&A and operational Finance leaders to deliver high-quality analysis, reporting, and business insights across complex P&Ls.
• Maintain technical accounting expertise in fleet accounting, lease accounting, and international reporting obligations.
• Provide accounting guidance on technically complex matters and serve as the primary resource for financial reporting integrity.

Transformation & Process Building

• Assess the current state of the Finance function and design the infrastructure required to support growth and scale.
• Establish and improve standardized processes, controls, and workflows.
• Lead the evaluation and implementation of enabling technologies, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and AI-driven tools, to reduce manual effort and increase accuracy.
• Drive a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the accounting organization.

Internal Controls & Risk Management

• Establish and mature a robust internal controls environment, identifying gaps and implementing corrective frameworks.
• Lead risk management activities related to financial reporting, compliance, and operational exposure.
• Ensure readiness and integrity for internal and external audit processes.
• Oversee regulatory compliance and tax reporting obligations across federal, state, and international dimensions.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

• Build and develop an accounting team capable of delivering insight and value beyond transactional journal entry support.
• Hire, mentor, and retain analyst-level accounting professionals who can contribute meaningfully to KPIs and cross-functional collaboration.
• Establish succession planning within the Finance organization.
• Create a team culture aligned with Fox's growth and performance orientation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Serve as a visible, accessible accounting partner to operational leaders across the business.
• Support the CFO in interactions with the European parent company (Europcar/VW Group) and Group-level reporting requirements.
• Contribute to the company's annual strategic planning process.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• Active CPA license required.
• MBA or advanced degree a plus.

• Rental car, hotel, travel, or broader hospitality/service industry background preferred.
• Candidates with experience in fleet-intensive, transportation, or logistics businesses preferred.
• Demonstrated success leading Finance transformation: building processes, teams, and infrastructure in organizations that previously lacked formal structure.
• Hands-on experience implementing RPA, AI, or other enabling technologies in a Finance environment.
• Deep technical proficiency in GAAP and IFRS, with specific experience in fleet accounting strongly preferred.
• Proven track record in risk management, internal controls, and regulatory/tax compliance.
