Assistant Controller

EA Talent Solutions has been engaged by a well-established real estate management organization to identify an Assistant Controller to own and oversee their full accounts payable function. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who takes ownership of their work and thrives in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the end-to-end accounts payable function, including invoice processing, vendor management, payment runs, and reconciliations
• Oversee cash allocation, ensuring accurate application of payments across accounts and properties
• Monitor and manage the AP aging report to ensure timely payments and minimize outstanding liabilities
• Manage vendor relationships, including onboarding, record maintenance, and resolution of payment disputes or discrepancies
• Coordinate with the cash management team to align AP activity with overall cash flow planning and forecasting
• Lead the evaluation and implementation of upgraded payment methodologies, including ACH, wire transfers, and check runs, with a focus on modernizing and scaling payment processes
• Collaborate with property managers and operations teams to ensure accurate coding and allocation of expenses
• Assist with month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
• Support preparation of financial statements across a portfolio of properties, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reports
• Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
• Assist with CAM reconciliations, tenant billing, and lease-related accounting
• Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation across all AP and accounting records
• Support external audits and tax preparation by providing schedules and documentation
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within the AP function
• Support the Controller with ad hoc projects and reporting as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
• 5+ years of accounting experience with significant AP management exposure
• Prior experience in real estate, property management, or a related industry strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting principles
• Proficiency in Yardi, MRI, or similar property management/accounting platforms; QuickBooks a plus
• Advanced Excel skills
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
• Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external vendors
• CPA or progress toward certification a plus

Compensation: $90,000 – $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience
