DEPARTMENT: OUTPATIENT SETTING
FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
This position is a Full Time, Monday - Friday position. The typical schedule for this position is Monday - Thursday 8am - 5pm, and Fridays 8am - 2p. This position will provide clinical and administrative support for the Orthopedic and Urology clinic. However, this role will primarily focus on Lab support such as peforming phlebotomies and specimen collection.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a combination of clinical and clerical duties to support providers, patients, and the overall operations of the clinic.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Responsible to the Clinic Manager

Regular Contact with Clinic personnel, healthcare providers, and the public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Obtain and document patient vital signs, medical histories, medications, allergies, and other pertinent information
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers with routine clinical procedures
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections accurately and safely
- Collect, label, process, and prepare blood and other patient specimens for laboratory testing
- Perform point-of-care testing and other laboratory procedures as directed
- Follow proper specimen handling, storage, processing, and transportation procedures
- Maintain compliance with CLIA, infection-control, and other applicable safety standards
- Administer medications and injections within the scope of training, certification, and applicable regulations
- Performs EKGs and other diagnostic procedures as required
- Assist with wound care, dressing changes, and other routine treatments as directed by the provider
- Recognize and appropriately respond to patient concerns or adverse reactions during phlebotomy and other clinical procedures
- Maintain exam rooms and clinical areas in a clean, organized, and properly stocked condition
- Follow up with patients regarding laboratory and diagnostic results, communicate information as directed by the provider, and assists with any necessary follow-up care or appointments
- Monitor and maintain laboratory supplies, phlebotomy equipment, and clinical inventory
- Operate and maintain clinic equipment according to established procedures
- Provides front-office support as needed, including stepping in to assist with patient registration, check-in/check-out, scheduling, and other administrative duties
- Accurately documents and charts patient information, clinical findings, procedures, and results in the Electronic Health Record system in a timely and compliant manner
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Serves and protects the facility by adhering to professional standards, facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements.
- Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc. to the supervisor immediately.
- Float to other clinics and outpatient settings as needed to provide clinical and administrative support and ensure continuity of operations
- Perform all other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
High School diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program. A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) is preferred.
Work Experience:
One (1) year of experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of remaining in a stationary position at a desk and working on a computer
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment
- Occasionally move about the office and facility campus to access file cabinets, office machinery, other departments, etc.
- Frequently position self, such as bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, or twisting, maintaining files, retrieving files or office supplies, assisting and adjusting patients, etc.
- Ability to communicate information accurately so others will understand
- Ability to hear and respond to telephone calls, alarms, and normal office conversations
- Visual acuity sufficient to read printed documents, computer screens, and handwritten materials
- Frequently move, lift, push, or pull boxes, equipment, files, etc. weighing up to 20 pounds across the office for various needs.
OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY: A Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.
