Position Summary
The Equipment Buyer is responsible for the procurement and inventory management of equipment, replacement parts, components, and related materials that support equipment sales, manufacturing, service, and operational activities. This role ensures the timely acquisition of materials from approved suppliers while maintaining appropriate inventory levels to meet customer demand and business objectives.
In addition to purchasing responsibilities, the Equipment Buyer supports shipping and receiving activities, coordinates equipment logistics, provides shipment tracking and status updates, and assists Equipment Operations through inventory management, order fulfillment, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position works closely with Equipment Engineering, Commercial, Manufacturing, Warehousing, Customer Service, and Operations teams to ensure the efficient execution of equipment orders and projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and manage purchase orders for equipment, replacement parts, components, fabricated assemblies, and related materials from approved suppliers.
- Monitor supplier acknowledgments, lead times, delivery schedules, and open purchase orders to ensure timely material availability and order fulfillment.
- Expedite orders and proactively resolve supply delays, shortages, backorders, damaged shipments, receiving discrepancies, and other supplier-related issues.
- Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier, inventory, and item master data within company ERP systems.
- Manage inventory levels by monitoring reorder points, safety stock levels, lead times, and inventory performance to minimize stockouts while optimizing inventory investment.
- Support inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, transaction management, and ongoing review of inventory-related activities.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments with suppliers, carriers, warehouses, and internal stakeholders, including freight coordination, shipment tracking, receiving support, and inventory transfers.
- Provide timely shipment status updates and tracking information to internal teams and customers to ensure clear communication and on-time delivery.
- Support Equipment Operations through inventory planning, order fulfillment, project coordination, and material availability for equipment builds, service activities, installations, and customer commitments.
- Maintain equipment-related records, purchasing documentation, operational data, and order status information.
- Collaborate closely with Equipment Engineering, Commercial, Manufacturing, Service, Warehousing, Customer Service, and Operations teams to support equipment projects and customer requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on procurement efficiency, inventory optimization, logistics performance, and operational excellence.
- Maintain a customer-focused mindset while identifying opportunities to improve purchasing processes, inventory management, order fulfillment, and overall operational effectiveness.
Travel
- Minimal travel required, approximately 5%.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel; experience with Microsoft Dynamics or other ERP systems preferred.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and data integrity.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
- Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
