This position has a basic understanding of VDC technology and is responsible for assisting in promoting and providing Virtual Design and Construction services that will support the efficiency and profitability of Knutson Construction projects through pursuit, preconstruction, construction, and closeout process.
The VDC Reality Capture Technician will serve as Knutson's primary resource for reality capture and field technology, transforming field data into actionable deliverables that support project teams throughout the project lifecycle. The VDC Reality Capture Technician will advance scanning best practices, lead the development of new workflows and deliverables, drive continuous improvement through research and innovation, and support the broader growth of VDC services across the organization.

- Participation and completion in scheduled and as-needed safety training, as determined by the company, and promote Knutson’s Zero Incident safety culture.
- Fulfills requests to perform reality capture services including data collection, scan registration, processing, and file export.
At least 60% of time will be located on-site amongst all office locations and job sites supporting reality capture, documentation, and field technology services. - Completes existing conditions, milestone, progress, and closeout documentation utilizing laser scanners, drones, Matterport cameras, and other reality capture technologies.
- Gathers survey information and project control data as required to perform reality capture services and field verification.
- Processes, organizes, and maintains point clouds, imagery, and other reality capture datasets.
- Creates and distributes point cloud deliverables, verification drawings, reports, and other project documentation.
- Provides reality capture, field verification, and documentation support for Facility Condition Assessment team and self-perform operations as required.
- Assists project teams in the field utilizing digital construction data, field technology, and reality capture deliverables.
- Maintains and troubleshoots field technology hardware, software, and supporting equipment.
- Performs quality control reviews of scan data and deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance with department standards.
- Researches and evaluates emerging reality capture technologies, workflows, and deliverables to improve project delivery.
- Develops and maintains reality capture standards, best practices, and workflow documentation while supporting future VDC initiatives.
- Supports additional VDC initiatives and services as needed to improve project delivery and advance department goals.
- Attend seminars and conferences on VDC and reality capture related technology
- Respond to and complete all other duties, tasks and/or projects assigned
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with Reality Capture and Site Surveying preferred
- Strong planning, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills in a cross functional environment
- Individual must be collaborative, professional and positive
- Desire to investigate and implement cutting edge technology
- Highly organized, able to prioritize and multi-task
- Willingness to be given instruction and follow through with the ability to work independently and within a team
- Knowledge working with Autodesk Revit and Sketchup
- Preferred experience with model sharing and management, CAD files, and points clouds
- Ability to travel 60% of the time.

Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Prior experience in commercial construction preferred.
- One (1) or more years of construction surveying experience preferred.
- One (1) or more years of experience with BIM/VDC technologies and processes preferred.
- Working knowledge of construction drawings, field layout, and project coordination.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment.
