Program Overview for Energy
The objective of the WRI India energy program is to inform and guide India’s transition to cleaner energy through strong research, ground-level implementation experience, partnerships with key stakeholders and communicating our work. The 5 pillars of the energy program focus on increasing clean energy demand, increasing clean energy supply, supporting sub-national energy transitions, raising the issues of materials and circularity for the energy transition and ensuring equitable development through energy transitions.
Job Highlight
WRI India is seeking a creative and versatile communications professional with a strong background in design, data visualisation, and visual storytelling to support the Energy Program.
The role will focus on translating complex research, data, and technical concepts into clear, engaging, and visually compelling communication products. The candidate will support the development of high-quality publications, reports, infographics, data visualisations, digital assets, and other creative communication materials, while also contributing to editorial, digital, media, and stakeholder engagement efforts.
The ideal candidate will be able to combine strong communications skills with a keen visual sensibility and an understanding of how design and data can make research more accessible and impactful.
The candidate will work closely with Energy Program teams, project leads, the Director of the Energy Program, WRI India’s Communications team, external designers and vendors, partners, and other stakeholders.
What you will do:
Design, Data Visualisation & Visual Storytelling
- Support the development of visually compelling communication products that translate complex research, technical concepts, and data into clear and accessible formats.
- Conceptualise and create infographics, data visualisations, charts, diagrams, illustrations, presentations, and other visual communication materials.
- Work closely with researchers and program teams to identify key insights, narratives, and data points that can be translated into engaging visual stories.
- Transform research reports and technical outputs into shorter, visually driven communication products for different audiences.
- Support the design and production of reports, publications, presentations, event collaterals, and digital assets.
- Develop creative concepts and visual approaches for communicating research findings to policymakers, practitioners, partners, media, and wider audiences.
- Use tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Flourish, Datawrapper, Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms to create high-quality visual and data-driven content.
- Work with external designers and vendors, where required, to develop creative products and ensure adherence to briefs, timelines, and WRI India’s brand guidelines.
- Review and provide quality assurance for layouts, graphics, charts, illustrations, and other visual assets.
- Explore new and innovative formats for data storytelling and research communication.
Digital & Social Media
- Lead the development of infographics, visual explainers, data-led social media content, carousels, and other creative digital assets to communicate the Energy Program's research and work.
- Work with the social media team to translate key research findings, reports, announcements, and events into engaging and visually driven content.
- Develop creative concepts and visual campaigns to increase the reach and accessibility of program outputs.
- Support the development of digital storytelling products that combine research, data, design, and narrative.
- Ensure consistency in branding, visual identity, and quality across digital communication materials.
- Support basic website content development and updates, where required.
- Contribute to multimedia and interactive storytelling, including videos, animations, or other digital formats, as relevant.
Editorial & Content Development
- Provide selective writing, editing, and proofreading support for key program communication products.
- Translate complex research findings into concise, audience-friendly copy to accompany infographics, data visualisations, presentations, and other visual products.
- Support the development of essential communication materials, including website copy, newsletters, emailers, and short-form content.
- Work with researchers and program teams to identify strong stories, findings, and insights that can be developed into visual or digital communication products.
- Ensure factual accuracy, clarity, consistency, and appropriate attribution across all communication materials.
Media & External Engagement
- Provide limited support for key media and external outreach opportunities, as required.
- Assist in developing visually engaging outreach materials, including fact sheets, presentations, and research summaries.
- Support coordination with partners, vendors, and other stakeholders for the development and dissemination of communication products.
Events, Coordination & Other Responsibilities
- Support the development of creative and visually engaging communication materials for events, workshops, webinars, and conferences.
- Develop presentations, event collaterals, digital assets, and other visual communication products.
- Coordinate with program teams, designers, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of communication products.
- Maintain repositories of visual assets, communication materials, and relevant program outputs.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Contribute to other design, visual communication, and outreach activities as required.
What you will need:
- 2–4 years of relevant professional experience in visual communication, graphic design, data visualisation, digital storytelling, communications, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in translating complex research, technical information, and data into clear, engaging, and visually compelling communication products.
- Strong skills in graphic design, layout, typography, visual hierarchy, and visual storytelling.
- Experience creating infographics, charts, data visualisations, social media graphics, presentations, reports, and other visually driven communication products.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating experience in design, data visualisation, infographics, or visual storytelling will be strongly preferred.
- Ability to work closely with researchers and subject-matter experts to identify and visually communicate key insights and narratives.
- Good writing and editing skills, with the ability to develop concise, clear copy to support visual communication products.
- Understanding of digital communications and social media, particularly the development of visual and data-led content.
- Strong organisational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with colleagues, researchers, designers, vendors, and external partners.
- Experience with multimedia storytelling, animation, video, or interactive content will be an advantage.
- Interest in energy transition, sustainability, climate, or development issues is desirable.
- Creativity, curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to experiment with new design, data visualisation, and digital storytelling tools and formats.
Potential Salary and Benefits: INR 9,50,000 to 12,00,000 Per Annum
Salary shall be commensurate with experience, skills and internal parity. WRI India offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.
