We’re looking for a passionate Financial Crime Team Leader to join our Financial Crime & Fraud Prevention team. In this leadership role, you’ll be responsible for managing the Unusual Matter Reporting (UMR) team, leading a group of Financial Crime Analysts who investigate unusual matters, potential fraud activity, and AML/CTF risks. You’ll balance people leadership, operational delivery, stakeholder management, and regulatory compliance while ensuring suspicious matters are identified, investigated, and escalated appropriately
This is a 5 month secondment based in Sydney.
What you’ll do
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the UMR team, providing guidance, coaching and support to a team of Financial Crime Analysts.
- Act as the subject matter expert for complex financial crime, fraud and AML/CTF investigations, managing escalations where required.
- Prioritise and allocate work to ensure service levels, regulatory obligations and reporting requirements are met.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across Fraud Operations, KYC Operations, AML Compliance and the broader business.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and operational efficiency while maintaining a strong risk and compliance framework.
- Monitor team performance, quality outcomes and development plans while creating a positive, high-performing team culture.
What we’re looking for
- Demonstrated experience leading or coaching teams, ideally within financial crime, AML, fraud or compliance environments.
- Strong investigation, analytical and transaction review skills with the ability to identify financial crime and fraud risks.
- Sound understanding of banking regulations, AML/CTF obligations and the consequences of non-compliance.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to influence and collaborate across multiple teams.
- A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities and a passion for continuous improvement.
- The ability to balance competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
