Float Certified Medical Assistant

Under the direct supervision of the Clinic Manager performs selected patient-care tasks for patients of all ages, gender, cultures, and backgrounds in the clinic setting. In addition, laboratory and office duties are performed as needed. This position has no supervisory responsibility.

CMA - Clinic Float Pool. Float to all clinics including 3 offsite clinics.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

1. Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms for medical provider visit

2. Obtains and documents in Meditech system subjective data (chief complaint and allergies).

3. Obtains and documents objective data (vital signs and weight).

4. Communicates to provider and/or other care team member's information about the patients; any problems, needs or changes in patient's status.

5. Anticipates, prepares exam room with equipment and supplies required for the visit and assists health care team with exans and procedures.

6. Provides basic education; explains lab/diagnostic test(s) to the patient including proper preparation and provides appropriate handouts to patients appropriate to their age, learning considerations and identified needs.

7. Administers medications or treatments to the patient as ordered by the provider (per medical assistant scope of practice).

8. Utilizes proper procedure with special consideration for patient safety.

9. Utilizes universal precautions, assists in obtaining specimens from patients (venipuncture, cultures, etc.) and forwards to laboratory as applicable.

10. Performs lab testing (i.e.urine dip, pregnancy test, hemocult, hemacue, strep screen) including all quality controls as applicable and documents all results comprehensively and accurately in the chart, and maintains all laboratory/diagnostic test logs.

11. Assists other members ofthe team to include, but not limited to, answering incoming phone calls, preparing charts, scheduling and other office tasks required to keep the clinic operating smoothly. 12. Ability to work consistently within all Broadlawns clinics based on daily staffing priorities.

13. Assists in pre-chart planning for incoming patients.

14. Demonstrates an ability to remain calm and professional during periods of peak activity.

15. Participates in the training and orientation and education of new employees.

16. Maintains a clean and safe environment and participates in maintaining equipment and supplies in exam rooms and nursing station areas.

17. Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of Corporate Compliance issues.

18. Participates in planning changes and improvements for the clinic.

19. Participates in the team approach in Process and Quality improvements for the clinic as requested by clinic supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Successful completion of medical assistant education.

2. AAMA, RMA, or NRCMA certification within six months.

3. 2 years' experience as CMА

4. Ability to satisfactorily complete Broadlawns Medical Center Pharmacology requirements prior to providing care independently.

5. Ability to successfully pass Basic Life Support (BLS)
