About This Role
To carry out pipe-fitting activities to support the installation, maintenance, inspection, alignment and replacement of piping systems, valves, fittings, and related components within the processing plant and other surface infrastructure. The role is responsible for completing assigned tasks safely, efficiently and in full compliance with operational standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, maintain, repair and replace industrial piping systems and associated components within the processing plant.
- Read and interpret piping drawings, isometric sketches and technical specifications.
- Fit, assemble and align pipes, flanges, valves, pumps and related components.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on slurry, water, air and process pipelines.
- Support plant shutdowns, construction projects and emergency breakdown repairs.
- Conduct pressure and leak testing and ensure piping systems are fit for service.
- Comply with Permit-to-Work, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Working at Height, confined space, and other applicable site safety procedures
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Ensure full compliance with environmental, health, safety and regulatory requirements as mandated by Government of Ghana agencies and AGBL policies.
- Take personal responsibility for individual health and safety and uphold the safety of all colleagues and mine workers affected by day-to-day activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies
- Technical / Vocational Certificate, Apprenticeship Certificate (City & Guilds) or a trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Pipe Fitting, or related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant post‑apprenticeship experience in pipe fabrication and pipe fitting within an industrial, mining, or processing environment.
- Practical experience with carbon steel, stainless steel and HDPE piping systems.
- Ability to read piping drawings and use fabrication and measuring tools.
- Welding knowledge will be an added advantage
- Strong technical expertise in pipe fabrication and fitting, particularly within mining, processing or extractive metallurgy operations.
- Proficient in joining various types of pipes using appropriate methods such as welding, brazing, soldering or other industry‑approved techniques based on pipe material and system requirements.
- Ability to interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings, including planning pipe layouts, system configurations and assembly sequences.
- Skilled in cutting, bending and threading pipes using power tools, specialized equipment and precision techniques to achieve required dimensions and specifications.
- Experienced in diagnosing and resolving piping system issues, including leak detection, replacement of defective components and routine inspections of process plant piping reticulation.
- Demonstrate strong pipe fabrication, installation and maintenance skills within an industrial environment.
- Possess good mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Must be able to read and accurately interpret piping drawings, isometric sketches and technical specifications.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards, including effective hazard identification and risk control.
- Knowledgeable about the Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations, with the ability to apply these standards in daily operations.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and respect other people's values and opinions.
