Overview
The DevSecOps Tools & Maturity Lead will be based out of HIG India and will provide leadership across the engineering tools ecosystem that powers software delivery across The Hartford. This role will focus on standardizing, hardening, and rationalizing DevSecOps tools and operating practices while improving the developer onboarding experience and increasing the maturity of tool adoption across teams.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Hartford is modernizing how software is built, secured, deployed, and operated across a complex enterprise technology landscape. The DevSecOps Tools & Maturity Lead will work closely with Platform Engineering, Reliability Engineering, L2/L3 support teams, product teams, security partners, and India-based engineering talent to create a more consistent, reliable, secure, and developer-friendly toolchain.
In this role, you will lead the maturation of DevSecOps tooling practices across platforms such as CI/CD, source control, artifact management, code quality, security scanning, deployment automation, pipeline governance, and developer self-service capabilities. You will drive tool consolidation, reduce operational friction, strengthen controls, and help establish repeatable patterns that make it easier for developers to onboard, build, validate, and deploy using approved enterprise paths. You will also partner with RE L2/L3 teams to improve support handoffs, operational readiness, knowledge transfer, runbooks, telemetry, and escalation effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the DevSecOps tools maturity roadmap, ensure alignment with Platform Engineering strategy, enterprise security expectations, reliability goals, and developer experience outcomes.
- Partner closely with Platform Engineering teams to standardize and harden the enterprise software delivery toolchain across CI/CD, deployment automation, artifact management, code quality, security scanning, pipeline governance, and developer self-service capabilities.
- Work with Reliability Engineering L2/L3 teams to strengthen production support readiness, reduce escalation cycles, improve knowledge transfer, and establish clear ownership models for DevSecOps tools and operating processes.
- Drive tools consolidation and rationalization by identifying duplicate, overlapping, underused, or high-friction capabilities and recommending enterprise-ready target-state patterns.
- Lead process engineering improvements that simplify developer onboarding, reduce manual setup, improve access readiness, and create repeatable golden-path experiences for engineering teams.
- Establish operational standards for tooling health, telemetry, incident response, runbooks, controls, resiliency, and support handoffs across global and India-based teams.
- Collaborate with security, architecture, infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to embed secure-by-design practices into delivery pipelines and tooling workflows.
- Use data and analytics to measure tooling adoption, pipeline success and failure patterns, onboarding cycle time, support demand, developer friction, and maturity progress.
- Build, mentor, and guide engineering talent in HIG India, creating a strong execution culture focused on engineering excellence, operational discipline, automation, and continuous improvement.
- Plan and execute cross-team initiatives that modernize DevSecOps capabilities while ensuring delivery transparency, stakeholder alignment, and measurable outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven leadership experience in DevSecOps, platform engineering, developer tooling, release engineering, site reliability engineering, or software delivery transformation roles.
- Strong understanding of enterprise software delivery toolchains, including CI/CD, source control, deployment automation, artifact repositories, code quality platforms, security scanning, infrastructure automation, and developer portals.
- Hands-on familiarity with tools and platforms such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Harness, uDeploy, Ansible, AWS CodePipeline, Nexus, SonarQube, Checkmarx, Terraform, Splunk, Dynatrace, or comparable enterprise tooling.
- Experience standardizing and hardening tools, operating models, runbooks, controls, and support practices in a large, regulated, multi-team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to drive tooling rationalization, reduce operational complexity, improve developer experience, and translate friction points into measurable process improvements.
- Working knowledge of secure software delivery, DevSecOps controls, pipeline governance, access management, vulnerability management, compliance expectations, and audit-ready operating practices.
- Strong partnership skills with platform teams, RE L2/L3 operations, cloud/infrastructure teams, cybersecurity, architecture, application teams, and senior technology stakeholders.
- Experience leading India-based engineering teams or working in a global delivery model with distributed stakeholders, time-zone coordination, and cross-location execution accountability.
- Ability to use metrics, telemetry, and operational data to identify bottlenecks, prioritize improvements, and demonstrate progress against maturity, reliability, and developer productivity goals.
- Excellent communication, influence, and change leadership skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical topics for engineering, operational, and executive audiences.
- Strong bias for action, ownership, and continuous improvement, with a track record of delivering durable outcomes across tools, process, people, and operating model changes.
