Description
RAM Aerospace has been powering flight and space exploration since 1975, delivering precision solenoids, valves, actuators, LVDTs, and RVDTs for commercial, defense, and space applications. Operating from facilities in St. George, Utah and Valencia, California, we build mission-critical components that the world's leading aerospace programs depend on. Join a team that builds the future of aerospace, on time, with excellence. Your career takes off here!
As Shop Inspection Supervisor, you lead the team responsible for making sure every component moving through RAM's manufacturing floor meets our customer, drawing, specification, and regulatory requirements at every stage of production. You will provide daily leadership to the Shop Inspection team, overseeing first piece verifications, in-process inspection, dimensional and visual checks, mechanical inspection, and CMM operations. This role combines people leadership with real technical depth. You will manage inspection priorities, develop your team's skills and CMM programming capabilities, and work closely with Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Engineering to resolve quality issues before they impact production. If you know how to balance quality, efficiency, and production demands while building a strong, capable inspection team, this role gives you the platform to do it.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Management: Provide daily leadership and direction to Shop Inspection personnel, assigning work based on workload, priorities, and qualifications. Support hiring, training, coaching, and performance evaluations, and hold the team accountable to RAM's procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Inspection & Technical Oversight: Oversee visual, dimensional, mechanical, first article, in-process, and CMM inspection activities, ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and applicable standards. Provide technical guidance on GD&T and measurement techniques, ensure nonconforming product is properly documented and controlled, and verify inspection equipment stays within calibration.
- CMM & Measurement Systems: Oversee the effective use of CMM equipment and other automated inspection systems. Support the team's CMM programming development and coordinate inspection priorities based on production and customer commitments.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve inspection efficiency, accuracy, and capacity. Partner with Quality Engineering and Manufacturing to determine root causes of recurring issues and implement effective corrective actions.
- Communication & Cross-Functional Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for Shop Inspection questions and concerns. Communicate priorities and quality impacts to leadership, collaborate across departments to resolve issues, and support internal, customer, and regulatory audits as required.
Requirements
- Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
- ITAR: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
- High school diploma or GED required, with significant experience in shop inspection, quality control, or manufacturing, including demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Demonstrated experience with CMM operation and programming, or strong aptitude to develop this capability.
- Solid background in precision measurement and inspection techniques.
- Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Working knowledge of quality and process control principles, including continuous improvement and Kaizen methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, Engineering, and Planning.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to balance quality, efficiency, and production requirements simultaneously.
- Demonstrated customer focus and the ability to represent Shop Inspection professionally during internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
