Description

The CNC Apprentice Trainer is responsible for training Machinist Apprentices in the fundamentals of machining through hands-on instruction and mentorship. The CNC Apprentice Trainer will guide apprentices in the setup and operation of manual and CNC machine tools, the inspection and measurement of finished components, and the completion of NIMS certification projects. Through practical, real-world training, apprentices will develop the skills needed to manufacture precision parts while building a strong foundation in machining best practices and quality standards. 

Key Job Elements: 

  • Train and mentor Machinist Apprentices in machining fundamentals, safe work practices, blueprint reading, G-code interpretation, and the production of quality machined components 
  • Develop apprentice knowledge and proficiency in manual machining operations, CNC machining, and related manufacturing processes
  • Provide instruction on geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and ensure its proper application in manufacturing operations
  • Support apprentices in troubleshooting machining issues, identifying root causes, and implementing process improvements
  • Promote and enforce KJLC safety standards, including the safe and proper use of overhead cranes and lifting equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements
  • Communicate effectively and provide clear verbal and written guidance to apprentices and team members
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, craftsmanship, quality, and operational excellence within the machine shop
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

Required 

  • Advanced Mathematical skills 
  • Ability to teach entry level machinist apprentice how to read and understand measuring devices 
  • Ability to teach entry level machinist apprentice how to understand blueprints and shop drawings 
  • Ability to teach entry level machinist apprentice proper procedures and safety 

Preferred 

  • 8 to 15 years of on-the-job experience as a machinist
