Description
Advises and assists users in operational procedures. Repairs and maintains computer systems and network infrastructure. Participates in maintaining County GIS information. Provides computer support to Sheriff Department and E911 Center. Job will include on-call time with Sheriff and E911. On-call schedule will depend on the number of technicians currently employed by the County. Performs related professional and technical work as required. Under occasional supervision, performs technical and clerical work as required in the maintenance of the County's E-911 addressing system, and performs related work as assigned. Provides technical support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and assistance for computer systems, radio communications equipment, and related technology utilized by the Sheriff's Office, Jail, including the 911 Emergency Communications Center. Reports to the Director of Computer Operations.
Has knowledge in the areas of computer technology and maintenance, information systems management, data processing, etc. Has working knowledge of varying business operations and is able to design / implement computer applications to meet business needs. Is able to effectively determine appropriate hardware and software requirements for various County operations. Is able to provide professional, efficient user support and assistance. Has knowledge of the standard tools,
materials and practices of the industry. Has skill in the care and use of required tools and equipment. Is able to make minor adjustments and repairs to computer hardware as needed. Has knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the industry. Has the ability to offer training and assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Has good organizational, technical and human relations skills. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. - Communicates with County staff to determine information systems requirements; evaluates requirements and determines hardware and software needs.
- Installs new systems; provides user training, support and assistance as needed.
- Maintains and modifies existing systems; converts files as necessary and if possible.
- Installs and connects new equipment, such as personal computers, terminals, printers, etc., to the main computer system.
- Troubleshoots equipment, network and system failures. Understands IP schemas and CAT5 cabling.
- Monitors system operations to ensure uninterrupted service.
- Removes unnecessary files on a regular.basis to keep system operating at peak efficiency.
- Researches and recommends the purchase of commercial software as appropriate.
- Provides timely and professional user support and assistance.
- Attends various meetings as required; attends classes, workshops, seminars, etc., to maintain job knowledge and skills.
- Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance from County staff regarding information technology systems and operations.

- Informs supervisor of newly created roads and road changes for records updates.
- Verifies addresses for other departments, agencies and the general public.
- Researches and provides pertinent information to and from law enforcement agencies, rescue squads, fire departments, local utility companies, U.S. Postal Service, telephone companies and other County, state and municipal offices.
