Internship - Agentic AI for Hardware Test Automation

Modern digital power controller relies on fast, reliable hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing. In this internship, the student will help build the test automation infrastructure behind our firmware development, using Agentic AI coding tools as the primary way of working.  The goal is a test rig that an AI agent can drive end-to-end, from flashing firmware to running tests and reporting results.  Your role Key responsibilities in your new role Test Framework Development: Extend our in-house Python test framework with drivers for lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, and HIL simulators.   AI-Enabled Test Orchestration: Build an MCP server that exposes the necessary steps of the testing workflow to AI agents.   CI/CD Enhancement: Strengthen the CI pipeline and GitLab integration for automated test runs and reporting.   AI Tooling Adoption: Use agentic AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) in day-to-day work, and help refine the skills, instructions, and agent setups the team relies on.   Production-Quality Deliverables: Deliver working, testable components that engineers can run on real hardware. Internship Learning Outcomes Instrument Control & Test Automation: Gain hands-on experience in instrument control and automated testing on real power electronics hardware.   HIL & Experimental Workflows: Build practical experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and design-of-experiment workflows.   Agentic AI & MCP Exposure: Develop working knowledge of MCP and agentic AI coding workflows in an industrial engineering setting.   Maintainable Python Engineering: Learn to build reusable, maintainable Python tooling within an existing production framework.   Engineering Judgement with AI: Develop a grounded understanding of where AI agents add real value in engineering workflows—and where they don’t. Your profile Qualifications and skills to help you succeed  Educational Background: On track to attain a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering / Computer Engineering / Computer Science. Python Proficiency: Comfortable programming in Python. Hands-On Mindset: Curious about hardware and enjoy hands-on work in a lab environment. AI Experimentation: Keen to use AI coding tools and experiment with new ways of working. Independent Problem Solving: Able to work independently on problems where the answer isn’t fully documented yet. Bonus Skills: Exposure to lab instruments, CI/CD pipelines, embedded systems, or power electronics is a plus. Preferred Intake: Able to commit more than 5 months #WeAreIn for driving decarbonization and digitalization.
